berniec 166 Posted April 13, 2012 This iis my third day on my pre op diet. I'm really struggling. I don't ever seem to get full. Today I had two Protein Shakes, a cup of cooked green Beans, a cup of cooked asparagus, a mixed green salad with oil and vinegar, a cup of petite raw carrots and two bottles of Water. I haven't cheated yet but it is very tempting. I'm allowed all sugar free beverages, Protein shakes, broth and vegetables. I think I'm just used to snacking and it's in my head. Any suggestions. I'm on day 20. 8 more days for me. My surgery is on the 23rd Krista our surgery is the same day. When I was told I could have vegetables I was so happy. I'm really not a veggie eater which isn't good but I sure do love them now. Lol. I feel for you. How many days do you have to do the pre op diet. I only have to do it for two weeks. kristaroberts 27 Posted April 15, 2012 I started on march 26. 28 days of yummy Optifast lol and diet coke
law8486 40 Posted April 15, 2012 you should NOT be drinking any type of soda!! carbonated beverages are a BIG no no after surgery! try to eliminate them now.
kristaroberts 27 Posted April 15, 2012 Actually they said we are allowed to drink it as long as its diet. Of course we won't be able to afterwards but I find drinking diet coke helps with feeling full. And after seeing all the food everyone else gets to enjoy while on the liquid diet, I don't feel bad that all i have are four 300ml shakes a day and a 591ml bottle of diet coke LOL
law8486 40 Posted April 15, 2012 oh yeah my doctor and dieticien makes us stop soda wayy before surgery. it makes it easier to not crave it after. plus believe or not studies show that even diet soda is just as bad as regular soda.
kristaroberts 27 Posted April 15, 2012 Oh I know it's not good for me lol but if I ate and drank everything
kristaroberts 27 Posted April 15, 2012 "]Oh I know it's not good for me lol but if I ate and drank everything that was good for me I wouldn't he in the position I'm in lol none of us would. Doctors and dieticians have different opinions on a lot of stuff. Our dieticians say eat absolutely nothing on liquid diet yet other ppl are told they can have vegetables and other things. So I'm doing what I can to make it through without having one bite of anything. If diet coke helps then that's what I'm gonna do.
law8486 40 Posted April 15, 2012 yeah i hear ya. but its a good test of ur self control. i worked alot of self control before surgery. but since surgery i honestly dont crave any of the bad stuff.
Leslie H 0 Posted April 23, 2012 my pre-op diet is for a month and I am allowed either 4 8oz shakes or 3 8oz shakes and one small (less than 300 calorie and less than 20 g fat) meal. and I can switch when I need a small change. Also 64 oz of Water. I can have sugar free Jello, half cup of veg. or small salad if need be. So far so good. My shakes are much better than I had expected. kmiller 146 Posted April 25, 2012 Wow Krista. You have the same mentality that I do. I have been doing the 3 shakes a day and the 64ounces of Water and the sugar free Popsicles, sf Jello, etc.. Last night I had a major break down and had a grilled chicken breast and some steamed broccoli. I don't believe this hurt me one bit. My surgery is a week from today. I can tell you the desire to eat has to do with the hormone Grellen, which there is a lot less of after the surgery, which is partially why you won't want to eat. law8486 40 Posted April 25, 2012 you will be fine if you slipped up and had chicken. it will be digested and gone in a week. i broke down and had a basic salad 2 night before surgery. lettuce tomatos and cucumbers with fat free honey mustard dressing lol. didnt make a difference. you just need to get in the habit of a liquid diet so it doesnt shock u right after surgery. but trust me, you wont want solids at all.
