Feeling Of Food Sitting In Throat?

Recommended Posts

Anjela my heart goes out to you, I can only imagine the frustration. Each bite that passes is one bite in the right direction, take them as victories!

You're in my thoughts.

I had my 4th endoscopy done yesterday. Dr said my ulcer is healed but I still had the stricture so he dilated to 15mm. Hopefully it helps. I so want to feel normal again.

How do you know if you have an ulcer? And this stricture thing you are all talking about? I eat 1-2 bytes of food and in nauseated- is this a sign? I'm so clueless to these things?

As far as the stricture....for me whemever I would eat. Even after 1 very small bite...no matter how good I chewed...it would feel stuck in my throat. It never would go down...it would just sit there. Eventually I would get so uncomfortable I would force myself to throw up if. As far as the ulcer.......anything that did somehow pass I would have terrible pain in my pouch. I'm feeling better now and am ale to swallow somewhat better due to dilatations and meds, Just hope this was the last procedure I have to have.

It's painful and way more then feeling nauseated, nausea is normal in the first few weeks.

An ulcer will feel like a fire in your chest with each bite or drink.

The stoma/stricture feels like something stuck in you just below the breastbone. And you may get the foamies, just bringing up bubbles of stomach acid.

Foamies aren't always stoma. It was the combo of stuck and foamies that my doctor said warranted calling the emergency surgeon line.

Chewing Papaya Enzyme helps too if you want to help digest meat that's stuck.

Thanks! Usually it's meat or Pasta so I'll pick some up.

Sorry ladies this is horrible. If you have a chance of dying can they revise the surgery?

Hey everyone, im 13 weeks post op. I always get that feeling something is stuck. I think its only because I try to either eat to fast or drink to fast. It goes away after about 15 minutes. But this crap is so not the business. So there for I find myself eating alot of popsicles. sugar free of course. I do eat things a little better now. You just have to know your limits. Im still new to this and learning everyday. I do know that I take a bite of something ,eat it slow ,walk away and come back to it when I know the food has gone down. I know it sucks but it seems to work for me.

My 4th one dismayed me to 13.5mm. I pray we both feel "normal" again soon

I feel you. They were talking about doing a revision on me as well but they said thats risky so I hope they won't have to

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
