Hi Beth

I have Tricare, my hubby is active duty. Have you talked to the Tricare office? I am getting my surgery done on post.

Did you have to have weight watchers or anything like that??

Yes, I had to write down all the diets that I have tried before. I hadn't done weight watchers though. I also had to do a nutrition class on base for 3 months prior to surgery.

I have done weight watchers but never supervised by a doctor. I am worried they will deny me for surgery and my insurance runs out in May. I have it through my dad.

Usually if you have done weight watchers they may wave the nutrition classes. but that is dependent on each facility. I am not sure about going through civilian hospitals. It has taken me nearly 1 year to get to the surgery. I am afraid it sounds like it may be too late.

I have tricare prime remote and the insurance requires (in order for approval)

1.Diagnosis

2.Height & weight

3. BMI

4.PCP letter

5. 5 year weight history

6. History of weight loss attempts

7. Thyroid panel

8. Comorbidities

9. Letter from surgeons office

I am just beginning the process of getting all of my medical records together, if anyone else has heard of this as well...

Ugh 6 months. I hope that's not the case :( I was hoping to have it done by July. We're not moving until June 1st so right now I'm in the process of getting all my drs paperwork and other documentation in order. Making appts before we get down there etc. tricare has been very helpful, but I feel like when I call I always get a different answer from each person I talk to.

I have tricare overseas and I hear it's alot diff in the states but all they needed was info from my mouth. Bmi and they wanted to know how long I dieted. It went through in a week. I have heard its easier to get done over here but idk. Tricare is pretty good at getting stuff done!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
