Food Intolerances/taste Differences

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if anyone has had any differences in taste after surgery as aposed to before? and If you have anything you can't eat now after surgery that you once loved!

I have a problem with a few things, I can't eat chicken even though I would love to! Also ketchup makes me feel sick to my stomach and so does the smell of skim and 1% milk.....funny thing is about milk I love the smell of the whole milk and love the taste!!

I had rny on dec 21. weight lost so far is 53 lbs.

I started on surgery day at 301. now i am 247.

I am 51 (52 in 3 weeks). i had problems with smell of foods. Everything smelled like a dirty dish rag. That side effect has gone away thank goodness.

Anyway, I still have long road ahead of me. I would love to reach 135. I don't know if that is a realistic goal or not. I am 5 ft 4 & 3/4 inches tall. My bone structure is medium.

Omg I dumped for the first time last night and I thought I was going to die. I had some cream of wheat with Splenda. It was so yummy and like 10 minutes after eating it, I started getting hot and my heart was pounding in my chest. I run to bathroom to give birth to everything I have ever eaten my life. I was dry heaving during the whole ordeal. Good news is I lost 2lbs from the dumping. Never again...cream of wheat is the enemy..what was I thinking?

Oh no! cream of wheat was going to be one of the first things i tried. Your experience sounds terrible, now I'm going to hold off on it.

I'm a week post op today and being a coffee FREAK, I mean I really love coffee, I thought i would try a few sips...MISTAKE! yuck! first time i felt naseous since surgery.

I have eaten whole grain cream of wheat with no problems. But everyone is different!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
