I'm 5 days post op

Recommended Posts

:clap2: I had my lap band placed last thursday! I'm excited and scared at the same time. I want this to work well and have every intent to do everything to lose my excess weight! any and all advise from anyone is so greatly appreciated! I'm still pretty bruised and sore from the surgery, but I'm so excited about this new adventure! I'm still on Clear Liquids and hopefully will be moving up to full next week. so far, so good. I've been a 60cc rule of thumb where I take 60cc every couple of hours to keep from over doing it. It this right? I've already lost 14 pounds in the last 5 days and am wondering if I'm not giving myself enough fluids. Any suggestions?

Congratulations, Chloe, a whole new life awaits you.

I would suggest that you do lots of reading, ask lots of questions and hook up with the January bandster thread.

I'm not too sure about your Fluid intake as I still think in imperial measurements. Just can't get my head around the metric stuff.

I'm slowly increasing my Fluid intake, I just wasn't sure how much to start with! I go back to the surgeon next week for post surgery follow up. I am so thankful for this site and your responses! It feels so good to know I'm not alone in this and there some one I can chat with about it! Thanks!

Take a deep breath and smile because you're about to take an amazing journey! I do not regret for one second having this done! I know I'll be a more active participant in life in general. I did gymnastics in high school and here I am 35 and 240# having trouble walking up my steps at home! Crazy. I knew I didn't want to start a famliy like this. It's wouldn't be fair to my children. We're all here for you and I have been amazed at how much support I have received so far. We'll help each other with this!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
