Well, it was bound to happen. Everything was fantastic, then came the bowel movements that should not have been. Around 2pm, two that had more content than I would have believed. Then about 3:30pm, the chills came, then cramps, and sweats, and some disorientation. This continued for hours. About 5pm, I figured I had become dehydrated. Even though I had been consuming plenty of Water, my broth intake for the last few days was only a cup per day, and I think my salt intake became too low, and I failed to retail enough water. I immediately went to more broth, and water, even adding a bit of salt to each. By about 8pm, I could feel it all subsiding. I continue alternating water and broth, putting aside Jello and popsicles, and my symptoms eased. It's now about 1am, and I'm back to a stable-feeling condition. Fluids by my side, sipping away as usual. This was my first side effect of the surgery and the recovery, and it wasn't too pleasant, but with Kelly's support, I'm back on track again. Hurray!

It may have been Dumping Syndrome. Many of the symptoms were present. Funny thing was that I have only been on the clear liquid diet, no fats, no sugars, and no excessive Fluid intakes. So far I have kept my intakes slow, regular, and light. Perhaps I must go so far as to seperate Jello (as more solid) from Water & broth to keep one from washing thru the other..,

Glad you're better...I'm not allowed Jello while on liquids.

Jello could have been part of my problem. However, my discharge instructions for my first week included Jello, and jello was served with all of my meals (4) while in the hospital prior to discharge. I assumed jello to be safe for the liquid first week, but now I wonder.

  • Speaking of liquids- do you know what liquids are allowed for the liquid diet the day prior to surgery? Is is clear only or full liquids? What did you eat? Protein Shakes? Cream Soup? broth? Jello? What??
  • BTW I have always read that sugar free jello is part of the clear liquid stage, just as long as it is sugar free you should be ok.

My pre-op appointment, 1 week before surgery, covered all I needed the days leading up to surgery. Dr Boone asked that I go liquid diet 2 full day before surgery, mainly to give more room inside me for his work, and to reduce the size of my liver prior to surgery.

My surgery was 11am on tuesday may 29th, and Sunday noon may 27th, I only had broth, Water, Jello, and popsicles, basically what I'm on now. From midnight before surgery, I had NOTHING, and when I woke at 5am I took my Blood pressure meds with a tiny sip of Water. That was it, until I was out and had my first meal at the hospital, which is the same as I'm having now...

Seeing how every surgeon is different you should ask your Dr. so that you don't receive misinformation

Went to my first post-op appointment today. Numbers look good. I lost a total of 26.5 lbs in the 8 days following surgery, which is great, taking me down to 373 lbs. tonight I advance my diet to full-liquid, adding Soups, v8 juice, cream of wheat & oatmeal, liquid yogurt, sugar free applesauce, and soy milk. I also partially start my regimen of chewable vitamins. This time next week I progress to a soft food diet, considering all goes well this week. My exercise plan has increased, and hopefully by my next appointment on June 20th, I'll be enjoying the pool and hot tub. It's all good!!!

Kidney aching on right gets intense. I think I slacked on fluids yesterday, so I began focusing on more H2O, and I walk around the house for about an hour to work everything thru. After getting a noon nap, kidney ache all but gone. More fluids and rest put the aches to bed. Better now, and looking to dinner. Now that I'm working into my full liquid diet, I'm gonna introduce one new food type a day, and see how my recovering digestive system accepts it...

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
