I had a divided gastric bypass 12/09/11. I followed all the rules. Lost 11% of my body weight prior to surgery. Ate right, incorporated Protein Shakes into my diet, exercised 5 days per week. But unfortunately 3 days out of survey I developed a blood clot in my leg. I was out on blood thinners and it prevented me from healing. I developed internal bleeding and 6 weeks later the slow bleed sped up when my. Like got to thin. I had to have 3 blood transfusions in a week. A total of 2 liters of blood products. I had to be taken off the blood thinners for 3 weeks to allow my upper GI to heal but the blood. Lot started to grow. The concern was if the clot broke off and became an embolism it could land in my heart, lungs, or brain. This can be fatal. So Inhad to have an umbrella (filter) inserted into my abdomen. They went in through my neck. This is Ro catch the clot if it breaks off. I restarted the coumiden a week ago and my blood is not thinning so they upped my dosage. As much as I've been through... I know that if I kept going at 434.5 lbs I would eventually drop dead. I had. I quality of life. I had lost 49 lbs but the. Gained some back. Started to lose again prior to surgery. My weight loss since surfer is 44.5 lbs. 77.5 since July w/pre-surgery dieting. I now weigh 357. I can only imagine how much more I would lose if I were able to exercise more. It takes 3-6 months to dissolve the clot. At least on e my blood is thin I can start taking walks. After too much time being depressed & feeling sorry for myself, I'm ready to make the most of the second chance I was given!
