15 Months Post Op

Recommended Posts

Was 270, on lots of meds for obesity related illnesses. Now I'm 158 and I only take Vitamins. AND I've finally stopped losing hair! Fortunately, the hair loss has been my worst surgery related problem.

I took Biotin, I used shampoos for thinning hair, I watched my Protein closely, I even tried rogaine. I did everything I could to try to make my hair stop falling out. My hair became noticeably thin, but at around my ONE YEAR surgiversarry it seemed to stop coming out and start filling in a bit.

Even with hair loss- no regrets on my surgery.

Anyone else here experience a lot of Hair loss for an extended period of time? I expected a couple months of hair loss, but was surprised by the 9 full months of it coming out in handfuls!

Hi I am nik, I had my surgery on August 31,2010. I've lost 110lbs and I'm having problems with emotional eating. I walk at least 4 times a week, and I workout to music on my iPod for an hour at times. I fear of gaining all of my weight back. Any suggestions?

Hello adot and nik, Great weightloss!

I haven't had RNY yet but, I'm in the process. I did have the lapband but, that was removed in 2010 due to a really bad prolaps.

Hairloss, from what I'm told happens - I had it with the band too. They basically told me to make sure my Protein intake was at the levels they told me to take in and some folks were taking the Biotin like you said. Glad to hear it's stopped though and that it's filling in for you.

nik - as far as emotional eating. It's probably one of the hardest things to work your way through but you can do it. I'm currently working with a therapist on that myself. It was one of the requirements for my surgery but, I'm going to keep seeing her and work through it all because even as I lose the weight with the RNY, I think I can use it so I don't get back to this again. Basically, I do a breathing exercise when I'm noticing my hunger or craving is due to emotions. I take two seconds and take a deep breath, hold it for a second and release it. It slows me down and clears my head. Of course it's getting in the habit of doing that BEFORE you grab the food. Another thing is to ask yourself am I hungry or is it head hunger? If it's head hunger...then chew a piece of gum or brush your teeth...then go for a walk, meditate, dance to one song...something, anything to get the thought out of your head. 5 minutes will do it...YOU can do it :) I wish you the best fighting that battle. I so, so understand where you're coming from but, YOU know you can do it :)

Nik- I know emotional eating is easy to fall back into. I think its just one of those things we'll have to fight the rest of our lives. I wish I had a better reply, but it's an honest one.

Thanks losingit!

Yes, please get as much therapy and help as you can with un-learning the bad behaviors. Emotional eating can derail everything with your surgery. I think about it everyday and avoid it.

I struggle with stress eating as well!! I try to exercise instead but I love candy and so does my boyfriend just set goals for yourself and make them realistic don't stop just limit yourself it's easier than saying no also put it on a plate so u know how much is there instead of the bag than the bag is gone !!! And for hair that lasted couple months hit me really scary but it's from losing so fast!! Most of the time it comes back!! Good luck both of you!!!!!!!!!!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
