We had our first evening meetup in Tacoma on the 12th. It was a great way to meet friends who are on this same journey. The next Tacoma meetup is scheduled for Dec 3 at 7:00 pm at Panara's in the Tacoma Mall. Look forward to seeing old and new friends there!

I have no idea how many will be coming so I will get there early and grab a large table and we can go from there. Not sure how busy Panara's will be due to christmas shoppers but we can get close and cozy if needed. :-)

We had a great time at last night's meetup. Autumn is was great meeting you! You are a wonderful success story and certainly your journey is one that you should be very proud of. I look forward to seeing you at both the St. Claire's support group in Lakewood and again at our next meetup at Panara's. The date for St Claire's is Dec 15th at 6:30pm and the next Panara's meetup (in the Tacoma Mall) is set for January 14th at 7:00pm. All are welcome to both groups.

I head off to Mexico with my daughters this Sunday. Their surgeries are set for Monday. Please say a prayer for them. I can't wait for them to join me on the losers bench, even though I am anxious and worried for them at the same time. I am putting it out in the universe. All will go well. I just know it!

Crowd-sourcing: Hey Everyone, Kay Feather aka primal and I started a WLS support group out of what we thought was a real need in the community for face-to-face support and the opportunity to put faces to names, profile pics and avatars. It has met a few times on the Northend/Bothell area. The attendance has been hit-or miss since its inception last November. I'm wanting to throw out there a couple of questions and hoping to get some responses. Do you need face-to-face support beyond what is offered at your care facility? What would increase or decrease the chance of you attending? If you like the idea of a meet-up in what forum (cafe, church, restaurant etc), location (north, south, east, central), what topics would you like to see addressed or appeals most? Would you be interested in events like hikes or races? Or are you happy with on-line support and support from your surgery facility's . Thanks everyone for your feedback in advance! :)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
