Cheeseburger Stew

Recommended Posts

Once you move to a regular foods diet this is a great recipe, I like to prepare in the crockpot:

1 lb extra-lean ground beef

3 Tb butter

1 cup diced onion

3/4 cup all purpose flour

1/4 cup minced celery (MINCED)

1 1/2 cup 1% milk

1/4 cup diced carrots

1 cup shredded Monterey Jack-cheese (I also like 2% Sharp Cheddar)

1 tsp minced garlic

1/4 cup ketchup

3 cups low-sodium beef broth

2 TB yellow mustard

1 LG russet potato, peeled and diced

1/2 cup chopped dill pickle

1. Heat a large pot over medium heat, add the ground beef, when beef starts to brown add onions, celery, carrot & garlic, sate' about 10 minutes

2. Add to crockpot hamburger mixture along with beef and potaotes

3. Make Roue with flour, butter and milk, add to crockpot

4. Add ketchup, mustard, and cheese

Cook on high for a couple hours or low for 4-5. (You can also add cheese at the end)

Don't forget to add the chopped dill pickle when you serve - it really makes a difference in the taste

Makes 8 servings (1 cup each)

This does sound good :) I make a taco Soup thats really tasty too. I never figured out the Protein level of it though but, it has to be quite a bit because it has two kinds of Beans, lean hamburger or turkey. If I can figure out the protein I'll post it.

I can tell you that 30days after surgery I had a one inch square peice of chix, I chewed it 40+ times and had stomach wrenching that caused inturnal bleeding that sent me back to week one diet, I passed 2 units off blood. My situation was extremely rare, but I would wait 90+ days before I tried that. Good luck, sounds good.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
