I think in general being in our 40s its harder to lose weight. I know diets only worked so long for me. I'm hoping this will work for me..I've done my work with my therapist for emotional eating and nutritionist and will keep with them after the surgery. I guess after 48 years of dieting and also having the lapband and it all failing...it's sort of natural to worry if this will work as well. My surgeon said she's never seen it not work if the patient follows the program and recommendations of the nutritionist so I'll be doing that!

I feel like I'm losing slowly compared to everyone else but the Dr. Says I'm doing fine....slow yet steady. He compared it yo the tortoise and the hare! He said I'll have less loose skin...I'm 10 weeks out and down about 47 lbs. My goal us to lose 12 lbs a month to make it to -144 lbs in a year. So I'm ahead of schedule is how I look at it :).

By the way ladies nice to meet some other 40 somethings. I am 43

I'm 45 and my surgery is scheduled for June 7. This week is going to drag!

Actually it will probably fly by! My last week I was so full of anxiety preparing everything at home for down time that it flew by! Then I was only in the hospital one day and it seems that was the only down time I had. Was up and out walking the day after I got home....

I will continue to work mon thru wed- but it's at work that I expect it to drag. I have an hour commute and work 10 hour days. Those days are long enough and i have too many opportuniries to dwell on things and when my mind is focused on things like the surgery it can really drag. When I get home the time goes fast I still have 4 kids at home (ages 10 - 20). My 20 year old is getting married June 22 and my ten year old turns 11 June 9. Could I have chosen a more hectic time to do this?

You're down to the final days! I was suppose to have mine 6/6 but, my insurance rejected for a 2nd time. Now I have to wait until 7/11 from what I heard Friday. I'll know for sure Monday.

Hope your week goes by fast and you start your new journey :)

That certainly stinks! Insurance companies are so frustrating. I hope that this all gets worked out and next month we will be cheering you on as you head into surgery!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
