Walk, walk, walk...

Recommended Posts

I had to do an official recorded weigh in, but the problem was that I had lost 11 pounds prior to that recorded weigh in and I wanted that weight loss to count !! I brainstormed and came up with a plan. I would wear 11 extra pounds to my weigh in... have you ever felt what 11 pounds feels like? it's crazy heavy !!! I strapped 5 lbs. ankle weights on under my jeans and put 6- 1 lb. bars in my bra under my (large) breasts and headed to the doctors office.

I walked across the parking lot and up three flights of stairs to his office and was a freaking sweaty mess by the time I got there !!! I was red in the face and struggling not to drag my feet from the weights around my ankles, but I made it !!! I got myself weighed, then I then had to wear those weights all the way back down stairs and across the parking lot to my car again !!!

Moral of this story is, weights give an added advantage to walking for weight loss. By the time I reached my car, I lost those 11 pounds on the floorboard of my car.

Seriously, I wear those ankle weights every time I walk for exercise now. I get a much better work out !!!

Very cool! I had a pair of ankle weights once...back when I was in shape (a long long time ago), I'd wear them on my wrists too...right now I'm doing good just to get moving without the weights. Cool idea though - especially when we are at plateaus.

Very smart on your part :-) Did they suspect?

My Op is on Tuesday. when doing the walking and for general weight management, I have found that the Ipad App Target weight Pro has been fantastic. It clearly shows weight loss, BMI, steps or other activity etc. Love it. Good luck, I have built up to 7,000 steps, which is about all I feel comfortable with.

Are you sure it isn't for iPhone? I have the ipad 2 and there isn't any app called that for iPad.

Hi, yes works for iphone too but looks good on an Ipad. Search for Target Weight for adults, Is just great. Easy to use and an excellent for visually displaying your wieght, BMI, waist measure, blood pressure, pulse, cholosteral, fasting glucose etc. Easy to enter target for exercise and weight. You can enter both metric or feet, Ibs, feet or a combination. Really I have found no issues with it.

Did you have to pay for the app or buy things to monitor your exercise?

Yes you need to pay a small amount for the App but no you don't need special equipment, except standard stuff e. pedometer for steps, then you enter those in the App.

Glad to help, couple of tips. If you enter incorrectly you can delete in history and if I missed an entry I adjusted the Ipad clock, added it and then when back to current date. Maybe other ways but they work for me. My fav App.

Help, am I overdoing it. 10 days post op. Have comfortably reached 10,000+ steps and today went to 14,000 steps, must be about 5 or 6 miles. Am I going to hurt myself, I feel fine? Too much time to waste as not working till next week.

Tor, I think that's an awfully lot of walking. Did you talk to your Dr. about it, and what did he say?

Hi, yes they seem torn, they say to walk but not overdo it. Obviously I didn't feel bad so I just kept it up, it was a lot better than just sitting at home and post op I had masses of energy which has tailed off now but is still there. Anyway I vary between 5,000 and 15,000 steps a day (2 to 6 miles) and have never felt so good. Next week I plan to start to do 10,000 steps everyday for at least 6 weeks. I have converted fat to muscle which meant that my weight loss maybe slower but will be good in the long run. Since the op I have lost 1 pound a day, pretty average I think, but with the walking I hope this will keep going while others may platform....well I hope :-)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
