JustFluffy 122 Posted July 24, 2011 Does anyone out there post-op have a Medical ID Bracelet? During my pre-op the Bariatric Coordinator thought getting an ID bracelet would be a good idea. She said it can be particarly dangerous if you go to be intubated, lets say if you were in an automobile accident), the emergency responder could go straight through your pouch (putting a hole). She said she has seen it done while working in the ER - a lady's spleen was cut and a hole was put through the pouch. This scared me and actually never dawned on me to have one. She said hers states she is an RNY patient, not to intubate and no Aspirin, No NSAIDS. I'm looking into getting one...I think it is very important. Do you recommend a particular brand (that doesn't cost an arm and a leg)? 1 barkatt reacted to this

LosingItForMe2011 320 Posted October 17, 2011 I actually had one in the beginning for my LapBand. There was a website that made them and a girl who made the Bracelet part. They were very pretty.....I think the website was called something with the word Hope in it. I'll try to google it and come back with the name.

LosingItForMe2011 320 Posted October 18, 2011 You're very welcome. They really are pretty. I'll be getting one myself. Once you have the actual tag...if you know how to make jewelry you can make others to match 1 biggirl2012 reacted to this

DLCoggin 1,788 Posted May 20, 2012 Interesting conversation. The idea was never mentioned to me and it is not in any of the reams of paperwork that I got along the way. Has anyone else received the card or a Bracelet from their surgeon or been cautioned to get one on their own?
TinyMamiOf3kids 1,280 Posted May 20, 2012 I looked it up. Is there a website with real 14kt gold medical alert Bracelet. I can't wear nothing fake.
Erin 25 Posted May 22, 2012 I really think medical I.D bracelets are a needed thing. I'm an E.R. nurse and if anyone came in from a motor vehicle accident or couldn't speak for themselves there would be no hesitation to slip an nasogastric tube down you. Make sure the Bracelet reads no NGT w/o scope! If they don't use a scope they can really harm pouchie. I ordered a stainless steel one from a cute website that offers free engraving. Make sure its got the medical symbol and easy to read print.
DLCoggin 1,788 Posted May 22, 2012 Erin it would be great if you could post the website link you ordered yours from. Sounds like a wise precaution. What about the "credit card" type cards? Do ERs check for those when treating patients? Given the option and the fact that I'm a dude, I'd prefer the card to a Bracelet if they serve the same purpose. Ivy taped mine to the back of my driver's license....it says I've had gastric bypass....do not intubate...no aspirin or NSAIDS...the surgeons name and phone #......
