jessicaanders29 17 Posted October 6, 2013 I did gain about 18lbs between dec-sept. It could've been so much worse, but I had already gained a lot back with the band so I was starting out heavier anyway. So far I've lost 28lbs in 28 days (I weigh in on thurs). Try to stay busy!! Talk to a girlfriend, take a walk, making small substitutions make a difference!
JewelJ 29 Posted October 6, 2013 Jewel, I was not sure I was going to do the sleeve that is part of my long wait. My dr. had said to wait 3 months for healing, since I had so much scar tissue and then once I decided the Insurance said I had to do 60 days of supervised diet, plus PCP letter, another psych eval and of course pre-op stuff. I did lose all that weight with my band I was so happy with my results and was maintaining a healthy weight and then the nightmare began. Very long story short... I believe that after being on antibiotic for 6 months due to a bad filling from ASPEN damn dental my body rejected the band. I spent 2 weeks in the hospital while my surgeon and every other specialist tried to find something wrong with me. My surgeon insisted it was not my band but I couldn't keep anything down, not even liquid. The other doctors could not find anything wrong with me either so finally they said the band must go. I begged my Dr to just look don't take it! He wouldn't he said I am going in and it is coming out. I cried until they put me out and woke up crying. I went into a depression couldn't even talk about my band without crying. Seems kind of crazy now... but I had a feeling of a terrible loss. After talking to my Dr. he insisted that he would never band me again and that he did not recommend it and if that was my choice he would not even help me find a Dr. to do it. He felt that since I did so well and my compliance was so great that I will be successful with a sleeve. It took me time to stop being mad at him for taking my band but I know I couldn't live that way and I was not thinking clearly. I was truly sick and didn't want to face it. After that I started researching the sleeve and found this site. Then decided with the weight I was already gaining I have to do it. I did gain over 60 pounds since March but I really just always felt hungry. I felt all my control was taken with my band. I am so ready for tomorrow. Do you ever use the chat room on here. It is such a great way to start meeting others. Thanks for thinking of me tomorrow and the gals in chat will be giving updates I am sure before I feel up to chatting. Send me the link for chat room.. i'm not sure how to do it... What did you eat mostly with your Band.. you sound like you were really good with it.. I"m good with salad.. and I have not had soda since 2007 ,, But I think I do drink to soon after a meal.. hope I can correct that.. and walk more

luvzpitbullz 41 Posted October 10, 2013 I had my band from July 2006 until Sept 12,2013. I lost all my excess weight within 18 months of having the band. I started getting horrible acid reflux at 3-4 years out but couldn't afford to see my doctor so I just lived with it. Finally in May of this year I ended up in the ER not being able to swallow anything. That's when they officially diagnosed the slip and prolapse. I was supposed to have RNY when they took out my band but surgeon found I have intestinal malrotation and decided against the bypass. So I'm scheduled for the sleeve Nov 5. Removing the band was ok. I am almost a month out from removal and I'm doing good. The first few weeks were really hard especially when I coughed or bent over or god forbid, laugh! It was by far the worst of the 3 lap surgeries I've had but it was still manageable. My 2 saving graces were a pillow under each side of me and an ice bag for my incisions and swelling. I went home 2 hours after surgery and if I had to do it again, I would stay overnight. You will be fine. I don't know what your problems are with your band but you will feel so much better with it gone. And then it's into the sleeved life which I hear is everything our band was supposed to do but without all the complications. In short, the sleeve actually works! Good luck! Lisaann2 6 Posted October 11, 2013 I had my band removed 2 weeks ago. Im going to be honest for me it was painful for about a week, but then it gets better. My advice is to just sleep it off. Get up and take short walks around the house and rest is the best thing. The port removal area is still really sore. I had follow up yesterday and he said it all looked good. We are doing sleeve Nov 1, hoping insurance gets their approval in my then, they took their full 30 days to approve the band removal.
