DMH 0 Posted October 6, 2013 It's been 5 weeks since I had my sleeve. I can fall asleep but then after about 2 hours of sleeping I become restless and get up because I cannot sleep. Is this normal? Any ideas of what can help me?

SleeveFox 10 Posted October 6, 2013 I'm sorry you're having trouble sleeping. Its a bit odd, since in my case atleast, I've been sleeping like a rock. I guess its because I can breath more easily after surgery. My guess is your problem could be due to post-op stress? Do you feel anxious? Scared? Worried? Or is it more of a physical thing like problem breathing at night? Pains? Did you have trouble sleeping before surgery aswell?

sherry24184 253 Posted October 6, 2013 I also have been sleeping so soundly that after about 6 hours I'm up and ready. I used to dream so much and get up 2-3 times to pee and I don't anylonger. You may ask you dr about not sleeping.

DMH 0 Posted October 6, 2013 No problems sleeping before, in fact I slept really good. I did sleep with a cpac machine because I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. Since surgery I have not been able to sleep with my mask all night. I make it about 2 hours and then take it off. I tried not sleeeping with it at all and I get the same result. Getting frustrated cause I want to sleep and cannot. I have been exercising too thinking I was not wearing myself out enough but thats not helping either. I go back to Dr. next week for 6 week check up. I was going to wait and ask but I think I will call the office Monday. Thanks for commenting cause thats what I wanted to know was if others were having this same problem.

SecretSleever 1 Posted October 22, 2013 Your CPAP may need adjusting, afterall, you've lost 53 lbs and your apnea may have improved. The pressure output of your CPAP may need adjusting or perhaps switched out to a BiPAP, C-flex, or Auto-flex machine (changes as your breathing changes). Most machines come with an SD memory card that you can take in to your sleep doctor and have read to see how your apnea has changed. I would try that first. The second thing it could be is a shift in your metabolism and you need to get adapted. Some people find that working out later in the evening tires them out and gives them that sound sleep you may be longing for, while others find that working out in the evenings gets them too energized and unable to sleep soundly. So, it could be as simple as switching out your exercise routine. Hope those two suggestions help. :-)

jcrsmom 45 Posted October 23, 2013 I have been having a lot of problems falling asleep since the surgery, I am just wide awake until like 2 am or so, but generally once I am out, I sleep well.
outwithbenjiboi 227 Posted October 23, 2013 I've had the same problem! Able to fall asleep, but then waking up repeatedly during the night. I'm wondering if my synthroid prescription needs adjusting, since I've lost 44 lbs. I know from past experience that when my dose is too high, my legs get jumpy, my dreams get seriously vivid and bizarre, and I get all hyped up. Maybe ALL of our prescriptions (including CPAP prescriptions) need adjustment. Jen

Since that visit I have had more issues with sleeping with the machine - waking up hourly (or half hourly), waking up finding I had taken it off while sleeping, waking up feeling smothered, etc. issues I never had prior to surgery. I talked to my PCP about it and he told me to discontinue it ASAP - that if I no longer need it it could be damaging my lungs by forcing air into them. So, for now my machine and I are on a trial separation until I get another titration done. Then we will see if I just need an adjustment or am able to discontinue it altogether. SeaGirl 193 Posted October 23, 2013 I had the same deal early on. I would fall asleep easily and wake up with my legs jumping, and almost spastic. This went on for at least a month postoperative and seems to have resolved. I will get my thyroid checked though. I don't want to be hyperthyroid. This is the first post about this I've seen, so I didn't relate it to surgery. 1 tebowfan reacted to this
