I All, I was writing an email to my friend who is about to have surgery about some tips and things that helped me and I thought some of you might like the advise too, so here it is ...

www.Mybariatricpantry.com sample packs

- A great website where you can buy everything from Vitamins, to Protein shakes and best of all are their SAMPLE PACKS. They have sample packs for everything protein! Soups, drinks, mixes, puddings, bars, pastas. The sample packs were really great.

www.BariatricFoodie.com and www.theworldaccordingtoeggface.com are both great for recipes and good food choices. They both even have recipes for how to make ice cream out of your Protein Shakes.

I had a really hard time with Isopure. I called it a isopuke it was so disgusting to me. However they told us that we can also use Nektar. It is a powder that you mix with Water and they have some great flavors. www.mybariatricpantry.com has a variety pack of Nektar flavors. I highly suggest you order it before surgery.

Find a coffee bean and tea leaf that has the good little pieces of ice. They are really great and saved my life while on the clear liquid stage When all I wanted to do was chew something, crunching the ice really hit the spot. Also if you put a little bit of ice in a bowl and add a tiny tiny drop of Crystal light and mix it together it's like a snow cone and taste really good and refreshing.

I thought the Protein Soups were pretty gross and I got really tired of chicken Soup very quickly and one night had my mom pick up some tortilla Soup from California pizza Kitchen. It was amazing! You have to strain out the big chunks but once you do the flavor is really good and I lived on that for a while.

Buy a body pillow. I borrowed my cousin's pregnancy pillow that was a giant U that went from one foot all the way up around my head on down to my other foot. It was a lifesaver when trying to sleep on my back. It let me sleep on my side while still protecting my stomach and made the nights much better. They also have a version of it at skymall but the long ones that you can get at bed bath and beyond are good too.

Our doc doesn't really believe in putting anything on the scars to help them heal but I put Neosporin on them every night just to be safe and they are healing nicely. I also just started putting Vitamin E oil on them.

I also found it very helpful to buy 4oz tupperware, I got about 15 of them and store everything in them. Also some small 4 oz bowls and baby silverware was really the best.

I think that's it. Feel free to bug me anytime with any questions. Good luck and keep me posted!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
