I am through with all the insurance requirements and now waiting for insurance approval. I was excited since I started this journey p, however, last night I go reallyt scared. I read several posts that one woman was in a coma for 5 months...and another , her sister passed away..( though it seems her doc did not take too good of after the surgery.

I had not confided with anyone except my husband and a friend who had the gastric sleeve". I had anxiety since I did not tell my daughters and if something goes wrong during or after the surgery or they would be upset that I did not tell them. So I decided to tell my daughters ...one of my daughters was very receptive and was happy that I did not give up on myself. My other daughter told me I should try diet pills...she is a PA and works at a neurologists office. She has met patients with the sleeve. And most lost 50% of their weight. I did tell her I tried phen fen and other diet pills which did not work for me. I feel so much better in sharing my little big secret with my daughters. I feel less pressure since I told them..I was expecting a BIG backlash..but they were understanding and compassionate.

Now for my other concern , since I yo-yoed so many years, I am afraid I will have this major surgery, alter my body, will lose my weight and then gain back..I always lost weight..but once I got to goal I would start gaining. I know this is a phycological issue I have to work on. (BTW, I started seeing a physiologist pre and then post) ..my question is how did we not go back with emotional eating with the sleeve. It would devastate me to go to great lengths to get the sleeve..and then fail..Your comments please.

Hi, I also has dieted for many years before I had my sleeve procedure. In my heart I truly could not believe that this would work for me since everything else had failed. I was also an emotional eater-but this procedure changed that for me. I have a new relationship with food, I eat because I have to and in fact have come to the point that my family, co-workers and friends encourage me to eat! I had my surgery 9 months ago and thought I would be lucky if I lost 50 lbs. As of today I have lost 92 lbs and am still losing. At this point I eat what I like, but my likes have changed-I would rather eat greek yogurt with granola than ice cream and I feel great! Good luck with whatever decision you make :)

I have the same fear of weight regain. Many years ago I lost 80lbs, the slowly but surely gained back 90lbs. >_< My surgery is on Monday and I am very excited and ready start my journey. But I still have that fear nagging me in the back of my mind. What if I go through all this and 2, 5 or even 10+ years down the line I gain it all back? I have to just stay determine to not sabotage myself. I plan to learn to work my sleeve and never give up. This is a huge commitment to health but it goes much farther than just the surgery. It's about a whole new life. I may have fears, but hopefully I can use them to drive me to succeed! Good luck to you!

Focus on the positive and relax....Everything will be fine. remember that no two individuals journey in life is the same. I am almost three weeks out and everything went fine. Everyone has different heath issues that May or may not have contributed to these unfortunate outcomes. Make sure your health is were it needs to be pre op and everything will be fine

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
