Need some advice/help/motivation...

Recommended Posts

I had my gastric sleeve surgery on January 11, 2013. I had known a few people who had the surgery, and afterwards, went back to their old way of eating (i.e. fast food, pop, etc.). I swore before I had my surgery that I would not become one of those people. I thought to myself, how could I do that? Go through this major surgery that is offering me a second chance, but take it for granted and not follow the diet? Well, here I am, 10 months post-op, and only 60 pounds lost. I am not exercising at all, or eating the proper food. Every day, I get so mad at myself for doing what I swore I would not do. I want to come back from it and start fresh, start exercising and eating right, but then a part of me is saying it's too late; that I already messed it up for myself. Granted, I am not gaining any weight, but I know that if I was eating what I am supposed to be that I would have a greater amount of weight loss at this time. I still want to lose another 60 pounds, and I need some help. Please, if any one of you has been through what I am going through, please share your experiences. Please offer any advice that you can to help get me out of this slump. I'm sure if I suck it up and start exercising and eating right, I'll see some results again...

It happens, you're only human. Now maybe start thinking about trying one of those 5 day pouch cleanses and just start fresh. Tomorrow is another day and yesterday is gone.

Omg..I just posted a similar question..how not to go back to gaining weigh, back..stay motivated. I tell myself that I will not sabotage myself with the sleeve..but my psych tells me I will..and it depends how I deal with slip ups. We will talk about that next week so I will tell u dr advisor to me. Can your dr tell u how if your stomach is still small and can hold only 4 oz max of food. Sometimes we need to forgive ourselves, and get back right on boArd. Thinking that will 100% good??is probably already setting me up for failure.i am sure the experienced sleevers can give us advice here.

Here are some random suggestions:

1. Who do you know (a person you see often) that would be an accountability partner to support/encourage your diet & exercise?

2. Do you use MyFitnessPal to log everything? You should check it out, it's helpful.

3. What if you baby stepped your way back to healthy diet? Setting small goals that get you back to a good diet. Like today I won't drink my calories. Or my goal today is to get 60 G Protein. Tracking calories, Protein, etc?

4. Is there someone who would commit to exercising with you?

5. Don't beat yourself up!

6. Focus on making your next food choice a good choice for your sleeve. Don't worry about anything beyond the current meal.

You know what to do. You have successfully lost 60 lbs and that is a BIG deal! Really, if you got serious, you could lose the next 60 by spring. You can do ANYTHING you set your mind to.

My two cents. Go go go!!!

You can't change what you've done so far-so don't beat yourself up for it. What you can do is make the choice to change what you do tomorrow. You have lost 60lbs and that is a great accomplishment, so give yourself a pat on the back and remember that tomorrow is a brand new day.....you can do this!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
