TvlGrl712 113 Posted October 5, 2013 I ordered a burger last night only ate some of the meat and cheese (no bread), but I guess my bites were too big or I didn't chew well enough. Anyway, it feels stuck (dull pain) - like right under my bra line if that makes sense? I tried to vomit it up in the night, but I think its lower than my pouch... I've been drinking Water, took a Pepcid, took MOM. Im not sure what else I can do? Has anyone else had this experience and when will it pass? Should I call the doc? Im kinda afraid to eat Breakfast - I don't want to pack anything else on top of it.
Madam Reverie 2,958 Posted October 5, 2013 keep drinking and give it time to work its way through... Have you taken a PPI?
love to be at goal 6 Posted October 5, 2013 I don't have a sleeve but I did have a band which was removed due to complications. I would suggest you chew 2 TUMS and drink hot Water or tea until you feel better. I would definetly not eat. Walking around might help, too. Joan
Satchel 42 Posted October 5, 2013 I have had that experience several times and still do. Getting nervous, I would tap on the area of the chest where it felt stuck. Not that that helped, but it was a reaction on my part and I always think it helps. The main thing is not to panic. I was going to tell you to try a GasX strip, but you have already tried Pepsid. The previous poster said hot tea. That is good, too, and small sips of Water. Walk around. It will pass, but if you feel overly anxious, call your surgeon or nutritionist. marfar7 1,533 Posted October 5, 2013 "getting stuck" is definitely a lapband term. When I was banded, I got stuck often. Meaning the band was in the way and the food got "stuck" going down. Now that theres no obstruction, not sure how food "gets stuck" literally. But I know exactly how u feel. If I eat too fast, I get a pain in my chest. Not quite as high as with my band but it sure feels stuck to me. My dr tells me otherwise however, since there's no obstruction, no food can "get stuck" When I got stuck with the band, if I added liquid, it would immediately come back up, like a volcano. The only thing that worked was sticking my toothbursh down my throat - hence my slipped band. Now when I feel "stuck", the only thing I can do is wait it out. I'm always afraid of adding liquid for fear it will also come back up. Good luck!
SJMusicalman103 25 Posted October 5, 2013 From what I've learned this far, food doesn't get stuck... The uncomfortable feeling is from not chewing thoroughly or eating to fast or too much for your stomach to handle... You can try sipping Water or like the previous posters recommended, some hot tea... If the feeling doesn't go away in a few hours, call your doc just to be safe! Good luck! 2 Satchel and juliansmommy reacted to this
ggflores 18 Posted October 5, 2013 This is from my doctor. Blockage of the anastomosis (connection between the stomach pouch and the small intestine) may occur if fibrous or tough foods are eaten. Fibrous foods include: dry or tough meat, coconut, hot dog skins, nuts, seeds, popcorn, and skins of some fruit and vegetables. If food has blocked the anastomosis try adding one spoonful of Adolf's meat tenderizer to 1/4 cup warm Water and sip slowly. If the vomiting continues throughout the day, stop eating solid foods and sip only Clear Liquids for the next 4 hours. If vomiting continues for more than 24 hours, call your doctor. Continued vomiting may indicate that the outlet from your stomach pouch into your small intestine has become blocked and you may be at risk for dehydration. Sometimes blockages must be remove using an instrument called an endoscope that is passed through your mouth into your stomach. The best way avoid to avoid this is to chew all foods to the consistency of baby food, and avoid food that are fibrous or hard to digest. In some cases, the outlet to the small intestine becomes narrowed over time even though you are following the dietary guidelines. This condition is called stenosis. You should probably call your doctor. 3 TvlGrl712, NMJG and Madam Reverie reacted to this

TvlGrl712 113 Posted October 6, 2013 A semi-update: I called my doc this morning. The PA called back and said she didn't feel like it had anything to do with the sleeve that it MIGHT be gallbladder. She advised me to take Pepto and Pepcid and go get a scan of my gallbladder if it didn't get better by tomorrow. I took a Nexium about an hour ago and so far that is the only thing that has helped. I still feel like it was a hamburger/bite size/not enough chewing issue because of the timing, but we'll see. Thank you all for the comments!
