New Member intro and how I've been doing 5:2

Recommended Posts

I've been reading these group posts for a while now and I feel I know all of you, but forgot you don't know me. I'm 56 married with three grown children, my daughter and her 2 year old son lives with hubby and I, as well as my youngest son , yes the house is pretty full. I'm in the US born and raised in NY, but living in Cincinnati for the past 15 or so years. Was sleeved in Nov 2011 start weight 330 pounds, did really good for a while, lost 75 pounds and got down to a size 18. I'm not exactly sure when it happened, but I started feeling this was good enough and old eating habits creeped in. Hubby began brining home chips and chocolate ( my favorite things to eat ) . Well the weight stopped coming off. I was actually so busy with life , as I usually am, I was really fine. I watched the scale and am at least proud to say I didn't gain any weight. All of last year I attempted a few times to focus and begin the weight loss again, but nothing ever stuck. I would go down 5 and back up.. Recently I've really wanted to get it going again. Not exactly sure what has spurred it. I think the scale reading 255 is starting to bother me and I'm ready to get it going again. I read about 5:2 on the internet, read the book and was thinking about trying it. Then when I saw some of us ( sleeved ) doing it I was in. I fast on Mondays and Thursdays. My fast begins on Sunday night after my last meal (really trying to get control of the night time eating ).. I have Protein hot chocolate for Breakfast on Monday, then green tea or crystal light until diner Monday night. If I'm really doing well and in control, nothing again until breakfast on Tuesday. So most fast days are 24 hours, from 7pm till 7pm. I'm at work when I fast so its pretty easy.. I stay busy. I take a no cal salad to work on those days, just in case I need it for lunch. On non fast days I admit I don't really track , just eat normal. high protein, veggies and low carbs with small portions. I still use my small sized plates. The down fall is the darn night time grazing. The fast days are helping me get that under control. My sleeve still has restriction especially after fast days (I wonder why???) I can tell when I'm physically full and still get sick if I push it.. The tool works. Its the head that doesn't always work. I know if I eat too much at night I'll be nauseous the next day and that knowledge stops me most days.. Oh yeah. I'v been doing 5:2 for 5 weeks and have only lost 2 pounds. So I'm not doing something right. Well that's me in a nut shell. BrownDoesAll came from my life. I'm mom, wife, grandma, boss, faithful daughter ( I care from my mom ).. and I do it all with a smile.. Love my family , Love my life , and I love me !! ( well most days!!)

You sound awesome Brown! NIce to meet you!. First, I would suggest tracking on feast days. Snacks and all. Just to get a grip and take responsibility for everything that goes in your mouth. 2 pounds is within the normal range for the 5:2, I know more would feel better! Keep up the good work.

"The tool works. Its the head that doesn't always work"

Lol! yes I agree, as FYE said tracking on the feed days is important because its easy to go off the rails and over indulge.

I know I've done it!

"Yay! I've lost a pound!!" Celebrations all weekend feeling good!!!

Monday "ummm... What happened???"

food that's what :P

Your family is beautiful, welcome aboard brown :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
