JessicaAnn 564 Posted October 5, 2013 Ave you had issues with your stomach? I'm three months out and have only been drinking Decaf until about a week ago. I've been having about 8-16oz of regular coffee per day. Oh how I've missed it!! Have you had sort of long term affects or issues? I'm still getting in all of my Water as well. SleeveFox 10 Posted October 5, 2013 Decaf? Is there a problem drinking normal coffee? Kinda started drinking coffee 2 weeks post op and my stomach seems to be doing fine. Should there be a problem with caffine?
J.Diesel 220 Posted October 5, 2013 You shouldn't have any issues. My plan allowed caffeine (coffee), at week 6 post op. Just watch your calorie intake per cup and make sure you account for it during your daily calories.
ruthie74 101 Posted October 5, 2013 I'm the same as you about 3 months out. I drink coffee all the time and I have had no issues Enjoy!
JessicaAnn 564 Posted October 5, 2013 Ok, great! I was worried about the caffeine and future ulcers! I log everything on my fitness pal including my Water and coffee intake . I was such a huge coffee addict before surgery, and I've missed it soooo much!
MIJourney 490 Posted October 5, 2013 I switched to Decaf for surgery and haven't gone back to caffeine yet. I got my mind to thinking I was drinking caffeine and now figure I won't switch back since I seem to be ok without, not to say I won't drink it if the need or situation arises
gmanbat 5,889 Posted October 5, 2013 Too much coffee is an acid issue for me. Not enough coffee is a grumpy issue. 2 JessicaAnn and Chittick24 reacted to this
antinette 19 Posted October 5, 2013 I have ben drinking reg coffee with sugar free Creamer from 10 days out and have no problems.
Rainae 22 Posted October 5, 2013 Per my NUT, the issue with caffeine is not only acid, but the absorption rate is different, just like with alcohol post surgery. While I am not sure of the effects of getting too much caffeine being a huge issue, just be cautious!
Dawnyellow 80 Posted October 5, 2013 Im not a vet- only 2+ months out but I did ask my NUT about caffeine. I'm a coffee addict too She said coffee in moderation is ok- it can dehydrate you so increase your Water intake on those days. Also I guess that it affects your absorption of Calcium.< /p>
swimmom 124 Posted October 5, 2013 I totally drink coffee without a problem! However, I have noticed that I can't stomach it black anymore (I used to drink it straight before surgery). Too acidic. But now, I just make Protein lattes and knock out two birds with one stone - my coffee/caffeine fix, and some much-needed protein! I like the Cappuccino mixes from American Bariatrics - I mix it with my coffee. But just plain ol' non-fat milk is just fine - and protein-rich as weill. Non-fat lattes at Starbucks are a great source of protein and caffeine and zip! Love them! You just need to log it in as calories.
Chittick24 52 Posted October 5, 2013 I'm 3 years post op and switched back to reg coffee three months post op. I have had no issues but I have to be cautious now with calorie intake.

I have had no issues but I have to be cautious now with calorie intake.doesn't coffee alone not have a lot of calories? I think my large coffee with skim and Splenda was like 40 calories according to MFP
CowgirlJane 14,260 Posted October 5, 2013 coffee addict... my only problem with it is I would drink it all day ...hot in the morning... iced in the afternoon..haha. Seriously, heard of addiction transference? I didn't become an alcoholic, but realized last summer that I had become a complete and total coffee junky. doesn't help that I live in the land of coffee stands every 100 feet... It sounds like a joke, but I realize that coffee not only made me "feel good" but also curbed my appetite and so at an unconscious level I started drinking it for those reasons. I have changed that, my appetite is in good control and i have in fact LOST WEIGHT since cutting back on the caffeine. interesting, huh... Anyway, I have cut way back, not because my tummy is bothered but because i was having OTHER ill effects.
No game 14,437 Posted October 5, 2013 Hey girlie.. I'm sitting here drinking my first cup of morning joe as I write this Funny I think three months was when I got over Decaf too I now buy and mix my Beans for a 1/2 caffeine 1/2 decaf blend It's the one rule I break. Granted I have a sleeve of steel and never really had issues with acid reflux or anything. Just remember to keep your Water intake up if you're going to drink a bit of caffeine everyday.
