Mexico or Colombia Plastcs?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone!

I'm wondering if any of you have experience or have heard of plastic surgery in Mexico or Colombia? A friend of a friend's father went to Colombia for his gastric bypass and was very pleased with his care and results. This person comes from a Colombian background. I was lucky to have my sleeve completely paid for by my insurance. I was sleeved 3.11.13 and I've lost more than 200 pounds! As you can imagine, there is skin everywhere. I'm thankful for my health, but I was hoping to start dating, but I am grossed out by my own body. My Dr. is willing to play ball regarding my stomach area( I did have infections, not lately though ). But I think I need a 360 body lift? Believe me when I say, it's not just my stomach that is a problem. And I really don't make the kind of $$$ for regular plastics in the U.S. Any thoughts, ideas, and advice would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Nicky

My sister went to Mexico to have her plastics done. She paid about a quarter of the costs for a Tummy Tuck, breast lift and arms (no clue what that is called) She did a lot of research on the different options but found that this was the best choice for her. She had a great experience although I think the plane ride home after surgery was a little rough, but I know she doesn't regret it at all!! Just do your research..... I also have a friend who's mother went to Columbia for plastic surgery...she had an amazing surgeon. I looked that up too, there are articles online about how well the surgeons are trained there and how plastic surgery is just a way of life and many women have had something done before they turn 21.

Thanks for the advice! My friend was saying the same thing about the Doctors in Colombia being better trained and a cleaner environment. I have awhile to figure it all out. I haven't reached my goal weight yet and I want to maintain for awhile before doing surgery. I just feel less depressed if I know there's hope :-)

Too bad we can't donate extra skin like we can other organs!

I have heard great things about Mexico. Plan to get my plastics done there if I need it. I haven't heard anything about Columbia.

I have not had any experience with the doctors there. My good friend just had the "mommy makeover"'. Tummy Tuck, breast lift and reduction, and liposuction. She researched on a site, www.myrealself.com." There is list of information for Mexico, Dominican Republic, etc. good luck.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
