What to expect first few days after surgery?

Recommended Posts

I had my procedure done on 9/30, I'm 4 days in and it feels like everything I thought I knew from reading and from what the Dr. told me went out the window. Is it normal to feel everything I drink hit my stomache like a rock...I literally feel it go down my esophagus...is this norm? Any other new sleevers?

To an extent that's how I felt. Try drinking slower, then it won't hurt as much, I was bloated for about a week and a half. Milk of mag saved my life, and a heating pad does wonders.

I had mine done on Sept 24 and the only problem that I have had was a couple of weak spells. I called the doctor and they said it was dehydration. I am drinking more Water and juice diluted with water four times a day. I am really looking forward to next Tues so I can proceed to phase II. I am not hungry, but I am ready to get off the Clear Liquids.< /p>

Bleh, I still feel every little drop of the Fluid at 3.5 weeks out. It DOES sit easier in the stomach as time goes on. My doctor said "Remember, you will be learning to eat all over again like a baby. Take it slow, and learn everything your new stomach is telling you." Well, mine talks to me ALL the time lol but on the bright side, I can take 3 decent sized sips in a row now without it bring hard on my stomach :) When I first started drinking after my leak test, it took me over an hour to get a single ounce of Fluid down. And it made me so nauseated. The only time I get nauseated from Water now is in the morning. The first few sips take me awhile to get down :/ Im still pretty behind on fluid goals, but my stomach is doing better each day. It's just taking its sweet time. Luckily, Im not dehydrated at this point. It really is a job for you to get in all the fluids and Protein and Vitamins. It DOES get easier :)

Also, Gas X dissolvable strips saved my life lol ;)

sip and walk. I had a glass of something in front of me at all times and after I would finish 8oz I would get up and walk around. the sooner I started doing "normal" things and got back to my daily routine, the sooner I started feeling better. good luck!

I was sleeved 9/30 in Mexico. No problems swallowing but still feel real weak and have gas pains. One sleever said, "Don't trust a fart." Make that a golden rule I am telling you. I thought I had it all together in my head what I was going to eat and drink post op but I am having a senior moment. The doctor sent home sample meal plans for the liquid phase but it didn't include some of the things I was told I could have and am not sure how to work them in to his sample. I am just still a bit stunned I guess. The trip home was very rough walking in the airport then a bumpy 2 hour ride on a shuttle bus. New sleevers just need to chill for a bit and let the healing begin. Take things slow but watch out not to get dehydrated.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
