except liquid.

I really can't eat much of anything. I was banded Nov. 27, first fill Dec. 28th. I was immediately tight but eventually could eat very small amounts and keep it down. Now suddenly for the last week I eat a tiny amount and within 10-15 minutes..it's starts coming back up in slime I spit out into paper towels as I head for the bathroom.

What's strange is I can eat Protein Bars, popcorn, pirates booty...all go down, isn't that strange?

I made a ham & cheese egg omelet, took two bites was very full so stopped. Within 15 minutes, I had slimy balls coming up w/ pieces of eggs/ham/cheese.

I guess I should call my doctor. I am not getting dehydrated because I do drink all day and can eat Protein bars. Would you just be happy and lose the weight or not? I am very irresponsible when it comes to food so I am inclined to think "this is a good fast way", kwim? I know though that I am sick!!!

I can only speculate, but I bet you aren't chewing well enough. It is the hardest part for me. Of course I chew, but not until it is all mush. Also when it comes back up, stay on liquids for a couple of meals to give the stoma time to heal. It gets irritated when the food comes back up.

If you still have difficulty keeping food down, you might get a slight unfill and see if that helps.

Good luck to you!

Ham is hard for me, as are eggs. So it might be food choices? Also, make sure you are taking small bites and chewing really well.

I'd call your doctor. You might also think about going back on liquids for a day or two, you may have irritated your pouch and esophogus.

I find it interesting that eggs are hard ? Do they have a hard time sliding down ? Or do they get stuck ? Logically you would think they would be good to eat with the band. Curious ?

I find that if they aren't cooked carefully, they can get a bit rubbery and be hard to chew up enough. Yeah, I thought it was odd also, I expected them to be just fine.

So is the trick to them keeping them moist or "Slimy" For lack of a better word ? LOL Im not much of a Breakfast person and thought i would be good with eggs. What about egg beaters ? Have you ever tried those ?

Thanks for the input Lisa

You sound exactly like I was going through. I got my 4th fill Thanksgiving week and I thought I was too tight because I was pbing and sliming every single day so I make the 10 round trip back get a slight unfill stay overnight in a hotel and now month later I can eat anything and everything. Hindsight in 20/20 but now since I'm loose I think I just wasn't chewing well enough so now I'm leaving again Thursday morning for another fill to put me back where I was. A very expensive mistake to say the least plus that long drive. This time I'm going to keep my fill and cut my meat in tiny pieces and slow down some on my eating. Good luck.

I don't know why eggs are hard to eat but they are a BAD thing for me.

I thought the same thing when I was first banded, surly eggs would be a good food choice? Wrong. They get stuck every time and come back up.

Even when the band was looser they did.

Anyway, I can not eat eggs at all.

* Have you tried drinking hot liquid before to open you up?

* Have you tried sipping with meals? No, you are not suppose to drink with meals but some people have to sip just to keep things from getting stuck. Lube it up a little. I have to do this when I first get filled for about two weeks. Then I loosen up. Just depending on what my food choice is.

I HATE any 'fake' eggs. They taste odd to me.

What I do is scramble them, putting in a little milk before cooking. That seems too keep them moist(slimy, I'm not sure. :heh: ). Also, I make sure the heat isn't too high and that I don't overcook. I'm usually fine then.

I'm not much of a breakfast person either. I have a non-fat latte and a protien/ceral bar most days.

Thank you all for responding.

I will just have Fluid today. I am drinking crystal light now and it does go down no problem but I can't take big drinks, no problem.

I really think I have been chewing lots and small pieces but maybe it's just not small enough. I will be more diligent w/ that before I go for a slight unfill. I struggle w/ being afraid that I will end up too loose. I will try to make this work for me.

When you say chew and eat slow...can someone w/ lots of restriction please spell out for me exactly what that mean? lol

Is it a piece of beef the size of a canned tuna fish flake that you chew for 2-3 minutes? Would a normal sized teaspoon (not heaping) full of something (say egg salad) be too big of a bite?

I am going to start another post about variety.

Thank you,

Kathy

Mindy, I haven't tried it yet, but I was advised to mash the eggs with a fork. It will make it like a bunch of small pieces. It might go down easier that way. I am going to try it, I just haven't yet.

When are you getting banded? I remember chatting with you before. You were saving money to get it done.

I went to Dr. Rodriguez in Acuna. It was wonderful.

I have a horrible time with eggs, unless I only eat the whites. Even egg salad is bad. Usually I boil a bunch of eggs and eat just the whites. Each egg white has half the protien of the egg, and 16 calories, lol.

It sounds like you could use a tiny, tiny unfill, if you think you are chewing well.

:D

hi Jules, Im going to be banded , im hoping by the end of next month.

My husband bid a job with a RIDICOULOUS mark up as a joke kind of because he really didnt want the job but felt obilagted to bid it. Well turns out they hired him lol Even though he was way more expensive than others. SO as soon as that job is done , im taking the money from our profits from that to get banded. The weather here in Texas has held it up . It was suppose to be done last week.

So HOPEFULLY In afew more weeks ?

PM me sometime

Thanks for the tip on the eggs too

Mindy

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
