Travelbug here again. Well, 3 weeks out from surgery, still one week into the mushy stage and weighed myself today (once a week) and no change. :cry I am trying to take all of your good advice to heart about being patient, allowing time to heal, etc but the amount i am eating now compared to what i was eating before is so phenomenally different that i would have thought i would definitely be losing at least a lb. or two a week. But I will prevail and travel on the lap band journey....just difficult for me to understand. Looking forward to my first fill in 3 weeks... Any further bits of wisdom from any of you who have had similar experiences? Thanks. :faint:

I totally agree with this. Impatiently stamping my feet into a perfectionist tantrum is how I have gained a lot of my weight. Changing fathink is a lot harder than changing food habits.

Impatience is the #1 cause of being overweight.

We want what we want, NOW.

Perfectionism is the #2 cause of being overweight.

Well, I blew it, so I might as well eat everything "wrong" for the rest of the day and start over tomorrow. Okay, maybe the next day. Or Monday.

The bandster life is a totally new start. It is learning that there is a more moderate and rational relationship with food.< /p>

I'm 17 months out, and still losing. Read that sentence again.

No rush. Patience. Moderation.

Take a breath, calm down, focus your attention on healing that band in your abdomen really, really nicely, so there are no nasty problems later. You want that tool well-installed, because Jack is right (as usual!)~~this is a marathon, not a sprint.

Travelbug, don't worry! If you are eating less than you need to maintain your weight, you will see a change on the scale. (multiply your current weight by 12 to guesstimate your maintanance calorie needs) scales lie. Be patient. If you are annoyed by the scale, back off to weighing yourself only every week, or even not at all. Untill you are ready for a fill, the band isn't really limiting your eating anyway AND you are still healing and need not focus on weight loss. ANy thing you lose in the healing phase is a bonus.:clap2:

Believe.

Be sure you are drinking enough Water, because ironically you need to consume water to lose water weight. Your insides are still in inflammation mode from the surgery, and are probably still retaining Fluid. This will gradually subside also.

Just stick with it (as if you have a choice). You did not magically put on 50 pounds in 2 weeks, and it will not disappear like that, either. The more realistic your expectations are, the happier you are going to be, and the more satisfied you are going to be. Unrealistic expectations just set you up to be unhappy, and then give up. That is the "fat-think" that we have to work on, while our band is doing it's job, and we have the harder job!

You are doing fine...just hang in there, and get through these first and hardest steps!

Courage! (as Jack always says...and I hope he pops in here and gives you a pep talk, too!)

I don't think you lost 11 REAL pounds the first week. I think you were dehydrated and then...while losing a little REAL weight the second week...you REhydrated. It happens all the time.

If you lose 8-10 pounds a month--and you have surpassed that--you are considered a band success.

Well, now I am officially 4 weeks post op and much to my dismay, when I stepped on the scale today, I had gained 3 lbs.

1st week: 11 lb loss

2nd week: 2 lb loss

3rd week: no change

4th week: 3 lb gain for a net 10 lb loss since surgery one month ago.

I feel absolutely no restriction and can eat anything. Not scheduled for a fill until 2 more weeks. What shall I do? Just be patient, heal and eat wisely? This is frustrating......

Hey there Travelbug, you are still 10lbs down which averages 2.5 lbs per week. 1-2 lbs a week is what our doctors want so you are right on track, right?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
