Alcohol calories and working out

Recommended Posts

Yet wondering...if I am consuming some alcohol but staying within my calorie requirements and exercising...will that slow my weight loss? I love spinning and core exercises, tabata, etcetera but I also like a couple glasses of wine a couple times a week. I'm keeping my food carbs low, too. Just wondering about others experiences. FYI--I am almost 5 months out. Down 63 lbs--275 to 212. Eating about 1000/ day and exercising 4-5 times week with good workouts IMO.

While the alcohol may not make you gain fat, it will be taxing on your liver and it will influence the amount of Water in your body.

A few glasses of wine in a week might not break the bank, but don't take it too far. :) Take it up with your NUT, but I think you should be fine if you're far out enough.

Hi, I drink beer with Ice at least once or twice a week and I have not had any problems. My workouts consist of walking and I still appear to loose 2 to 3 pounds a week. I'm waiting until November to hit the big gym. I think with your activity and low consumption you should be ok . Calories are calories it doesn't really matter where they come from so as long as your meeting your daily goal. We all know the health concerns with alcohol consumption but it :) doesn't sound like your on the wrong path. (:

Guess I'll go get a stick of butter instead of the bottle of Jack Daniels I was planning on downing.

It's easy for alcohol to creep up on you both physically and calorie/sugar wise. My NUT said to do a small amount of vodka with crystal lite or something since juices have added sugar, soda has carbonation, etc. But it can cause dehydration, Fluid retention and make you feel icky the next day which could stall weight loss. However, everybody is different! And some is much better at handling foods/drinks than others. Just be cautious - many people can't hold nearly as much as they used to. :P

I drink a pitcher of beer while I'm working out at the gym. I take two big gulps between each set. Can't have another swig until I do another set....motivates me to keep lifting.

:o

Just kidding of course. I really try to limit my alcohol to maybe once a month and just maybe two glasses at most when I do. Really got to watch the alcohol post sleeve with the risks of crossover addictions. But I know that's not your real question.

As for calories from it and exercising....I would probably try to have the alcohol on a night I knew I wasn't going to exercise the next day since it can dehydrate you. And good hydration is one of the keys to a good exercise session. As for the calories, there's some debate on a calorie is a calorie. My guess...... it is probably true as far as just pure body weight goes. But someone who weighs say 200 pounds gets X amount of calories from lean Protein, a few slow carbs (veggies) and good fats, will probably stay a little more fit and have a better physique (muscle) than someone who weighs the same 200 pounds, gets the same X calories from about all sugary stuff and saturated fats, which may tend to be stored as fat in the belly and other unwanted places. I really have no science or studies to back that up, but I'm guessing it's out there and I'm just going from my bit of research. With that said, I'd say have some wine from time to time, I do and it hasn't messed me up yet sticking to just once a month indulgence. Just maybe limit it, stay with clear alocohol, no sugar/juices and ease into it and gauge your body's response to it and adjust from there.

Your body goes immediately to burning the alcohol and not fat. So the whole time you have it in your system your body is thinking of nothing else.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
