Going on a date. Do I tell?

Recommended Posts

I have a date Friday night! Whoo hoo!! However, we are going out to dinner. I will be 6 weeks out, so I really don't eat much. I've gone out before and order an appetizer and don't even finish that. Do I tell him that I've had WLS and that's why I don't eat much? Or do I just say "Food really doesn't appeal to me. Can't you tell?"

Depends how you view this person, whether its your first date and whether you would like to be upfront or not? If not, just say you're nervous and it wrecks your appetite!

No, I wouldn't tell ... yet.

I would order a Soup and just explain that somebody brought some [fill in the blank] at work and you couldn't resist, so you just aren't that hungry right now. Or just say that your stomach has been feeling a little different today so you want to have something lighter.

To me, WLS is a highly personal thing that I don't feel I have to share with someone I am going on a first date with. After a couple dates, if I decide this might go somewhere, then I would explain, but you don't know if you are going to see this person ever again, so what good would it do to tell them on the first date?

..or you could be like lots of skinny girls who barely eat on a dat -- he may not give it a thought.

I was banded about 9 mths before I started dating (widowed for 3 yrs before). I never told my coffee dates but the few meal dates I had I told them. Basically just to make conversation.

I met my now husband over coffee and actually told him. He had recently lost 80 lbs so we had something in common.

At this point I wouldn't say anything unless ur so proud of urself u need to share ur story (as I was). But if it looks like it might form into a relationship, I would say something. I never had a bad reaction from any guy I told. And ur so busy talking that I bet he won't even notice the amt u eat

Have fun!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
