This is my very first post in the Post Op section!

Recommended Posts

Was sleeved on Tuesday, October 1st. Just got home from the hospital late last night, so today really feels like my first day at home. I must say, the one thing I miss most about actually being in the hospital is the iv pain killers. My right side is where my largest incision is, and, according to my surgeon, is the incision they pulled my stomach through, and it is just really REALLY painful.

I know everyone's different, but about how long did it take y'all to start feeling human again? Anyone else have this kind of pain post op?

had discomfort but no real "pain". Felt OK in a week, except was very tired for a number of weeks...

Sounds very normal to me, I was incredibly sore when I went to sit up or stand but once there its was tolerable. Walking was easy, and no real "pain" per se but felt like I had done 1000 crunches. My surgeon explained how they remove the stomach, they make an incision in the skin, your ab muscles are like vertical fibers all bound together he just basically works the fibers apart to get to the stomach so they do not cut the muscle. But that's why that one incision is more painful. Hope this helps. Make sure you keep up with your pain pills don't wait till they wear off because they take about 30 min to kick back in. The first 3 days were the worst for me after that I stopped taking the meds

I had surgery monday and am having the same pains still up and down takes lots of patience but once im up walking around its better. I haven't stayed up with the pain meds maybe I should took just once to help with a better nights sleep. People complained of gas pains and I'm doing good with thoses so I guess ut could be worse. Hoping im better by Monday as I go back to work. Good luck on your recovery.

That's some good advice. I need to keep up better on my pain pills. I'm hoping that if I keep on top of those then I will feel better which means more walking and quicker healing.

Thanks everyone for their input so far!

I had surgery on Oct 1st. Came home yesterday. I'm feeling awful. I'm in so much pain. It hurts to sit, walk, sleep. I can't get in 64ozs of liquids. Did anyone else have a problem with that? I am so nauseated. I pray this goes away. I literally just want to cry from how sick I feel.

I was also sleeved on 10/1. Besides feeling sore and minimal pain when I sit down or stand up I'm doing well. Just got home today.

Make sure you sit up that will help with nausia I made the mistake of wanting to stetch out and laid down big no no nurse said it makes you sick and it did but. Just stay up with the nausia meds and try and get your fluids you won't be meeting that 64oz in the beginning but will work up to it. Push to at least get your protien I'm 4 days out I'm at about 32oz for the day and 50grams protien and it's only 5pm. Drink drink drink!

The first week was hell for me! I didn't have buyers remorse per say, but I was absolutely miserable. The second week was better. I'm 3 weeks post op now, and Im feeling more like myself. I'm still very tired, and Im still dealing with some nausea but its getting better. Hang in there!!

I had pain for about a week, and I second the recommendation to keep up on your pain pills - set a timer.

I don't know of anyone who has been able to get in all the fluids or Protein immediately after surgery, you'll need to keep working at it. It'll be a gradual progression.

Most of all, congratulations and welcome to the club. :)

Oh no that's no good at all. :-( Are you staying on top of your pain meds? Do you maybe need something stronger?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
