8 months post op, and new pain

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I'm occasionally experiencing excruciating left side, right below my rib, pain.

This is so bad, I begin to sweat, feel disoriented, and have shortness of breath. I'm shaky and feel drained for hours afterward.

Anyone ever experience anything similar? This has happened 3 times in the last month, and I'm curious.

Do you still have your gallbladder, because it sounds like gallbladder issues. The pain starts in the right side below the rib cage and spreads to the back.

The sharp pain on your left side is unfamiliar to me but the other symptoms happen to me when I'm dumping. Definitely sounds like you should see your doctor or surgeon.

Does this happen While you are eating? 15 minutes after ... an hour after? Is there a certain food that triggers it? Any lactose issues?

Talk to your Dr about doing and endoscopy. I have heard of VSG patients with bougie size 30 having issues with their stomach's twisting, but I don't think that would cause pain, especially on the left side ...

Call your doctor's office ASAP, go through the emergency number if you need to. This may or may not be a sleeve thing and should be addressed right away. Tomorrow is Friday and then we have the weekend, which is not the optimal time to get care. Do it now!

Guess I should find a specialist? Gastro doc, or sleeve surgeon?? I went to Mexico for surgery, so I don't have a doc.

Also, this has happened a total of 3 times over the last month and a half or so. I don't think it's an emergency, but may well hit the er the next time it strikes ...

I've had this happen lately too. Left side pain, under the rib. It has come and gone a few times. At first I thought it was because I was sitting funny, but one day it lasted all day.

I google possible causes - gas or spleen problem came back. I took some Gas-X, although I didn't feel particularly gassy.

Good luck. Keep us updated, I hope you feel better!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
