I was just wondering how much extra skin I should anticipate. I will get sleeved a week before my 30th B-day and I would like to loose about 110lbs.

like so many things... it's very 'person by person' different. Lots of hints on how to do this in various threads here...

you are very young so you have a good chance the skin will adjust a good bit, particularly if the weight has only been there a few years. unlike me and my sharpei suit ( of which i am inordinately proud, i might add)

Like everyone said it really depends on your genetic make up, age, and how long you've had the extra weight. I'm 38 and so far with almost 50 lbs gone have no extra skin. I still have about 30 more lbs to go, but so far so good.

I'm also a slow loser so maybe that's helped me out too. Good luck to you:)

Jess, I lost about 100 lbs when I was in my late 20s, and I did it along with a strenuous exercise program...I had no problem then with loose skin issues...now fast forward to my being 51 and had a VSG in May...so far, I've lost just over 50 lbs, and I am having some issues with loose and flabby skin already...part of it of course is my aging I think in general and not the weight loss alone....as others have said, genetics and other factors play a part, but I would think at your age and with a 100 lb weight loss, you have a good chance of avoiding loose skin issues...best to you!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
