I LOVE Ethiopian, including injeera.... I was just sleeved on monday - any other ethiopian lovers out there? What are my chances of ever having ethiopian again?

High I think. I made doro wat the other day. The veggies and lentils should all work as should the meat. Surprisingly the injera doesn't have that many carbs/calories in it. At least in the quantities that we could eat. My husband makes the best injera but I think we will be eating one fourth of one! I think the bigger issue is how could you order little enough? It may be easier to learn to make it, unless your family has non-ops who also love it. My husband and I are both sleeved so I don't think we could even eat one order between us!

But we too love it and have learned how to make it. Yum!

Had Ethiopian for the first time this past Saturday - OH EM GEE!!

I imagine it will be awhile until you're able to have it again as some of it has a bite to it.

Yup! On my blog! One for Berbere which is to Ethiopian food as garam masala is to Indian. And then doro wat which uses said Berbere. I will post some dal ones and a cabbage one when I get back home and have time to make them. Super yummy.

Traditionally served over a very fidgety bread made with teff flour that requires you to start with a sourdough starter, but in our case, zucchini noodles may have to suffice.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
