Ear and throat ache before surgery

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on May 23rd. I woke up May 22 with a sore throat and stuffy nose, and because of all the arrangements to have my surgery 150 miles from home, moved forward with the surgery as planned. The morning of May 23rd I felt ok, but not great. The day after surgery an upper respiratory infection hit me like a ton of bricks. I felt absolutely horrible. Because of the surgery it took me longer to get over the virus, AND it delayed my recovery from the gastric sleeve. I didn't feel well enough to do more than lay around for 4 weeks. In hind sight, if I had delayed my surgery I would have bounced back a lot faster. I have a history of getting upper respiratory viruses a couple times a year and I don't just get the sniffles, it is always the full blown bronchitis and sinus infection. I would definitely mention it to your doctor before you have surgery. If you are someone who just gets the sniffles and feels bad for a day or two, then it might be just fine. If you usually come down with a full blown infection like I do, then it might make sense to postpone. Good luck, I hope everything goes smoothly for you what ever you decide!

Omg I feel sorry for you... I feel that mine is due to the fan directly hitting me!!!! I hope so

It's pretty common to have those after sleeping with the fan directly blowing on you all night. I sleep with mine on, but I avoid the head area. It blows on my legs and feet because I tend to stick my feet out of the covers to keep me cool at night.

Good luck to you! Relax and try to not stress about it.

I think this is largely fan related (and nerves)... Have a hot shower and a hot cup of tea.... get those juices moving and you'll be great. If you're still worried when you get there, tell them to have a look down your throat and in your ears. They'll soon be able to tell if something is up! Best of luck for your surgery :) x

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
