Biggest mistake you've made SINCE banding?

Recommended Posts

Two things- one has been stated- don't let yourself get too hungry - I also tend to bolt my food when i am hungry and then pay for it. Slow is always the key. Now if i could just remember that!

Second and most important is DON"T BE TOO HARD ON YOURSELF!! Everyones loss is different. it is learning how you relate to your band and how to make it work for you. My dr tells me this all the time when i complain i am not doing good enough and it is too slow. It is almost 1 yr and 95 lbs and he is more then pleased so i should be also.

Now, do as i say, not as i do!!!

This is a great thread...

I've made three big mistakes...

1) Choc

2) o

3) late

I would tell anyone (especially in the UK where candy is sweeter), the band doesn't work with sugary food. (thankfully, I don't indulge these days)

Mine I think is talking on the phone while I eat. That is a no no for me. I need to pay attention when I eat if I don't I either eat to fast or take to big of a bite and that leads to a very painful stop in eating. So when I eat no phone calls.

My biggest mistakes is sometimes I actually forget I have a band. I start eating, and do so like a normal person and take too big of bites too fast. But, that wonderful golfball feeling then quickly reminds me I have a band and to cool it.

For me

1. Eating too fast when Im very hungry

2. Thinking I could do this without giving up sugar- I have to stay away completely to lose weight. Sweets go thru way too easy and leave me empty and wanting more!

Not taking time to eat. Getting to hung up on the exercise program that twice I had to come home because I was to weak to work out. I have since bought some meal drinks in a can that I can drink on the way. It was a waste of gas and my time and stupid on my part. Just because I don't feel hungry isn't a reason to skip meals.

I have to add eating when I am very hungry. It's an almost 100% promise of a PB for me. I don't know if it's from eating too fast, or what, but it feels like my stomach just clamps down and shuts when I am ravenous. Since I started adopting this rule and others (liquids in the morning, wine before dinner) I went from having two PB's almost every week to having one PB in two months!

My biggest mistake in the last 5 weeks is...

TWO small bites of a Cracker Barrell biscuit. It was like having a giant dough ball stuck in my chest for a couple of hours.

my new mantra - repeat after me....

I WILL NOT EAT BISCUITS. I WILL NOT EAT BISCUITS.

Even though they are tasty and so delicious they are evil.

Biggest mistakes:

1) I have to add on to Jack's...thinking tighter was better and suffering through being too tight. Weightloss stopped, food choices bad, mental suffering.

2) Losing sight of the size rules and stretching my pouch...what my dr calls a "prelude to a slip". The surgeon gives you size rules for a reason!

3) Letting my old demons creep up on me. After losing 100lbs in a year...I. Freaked. Out. Haven't lost anything in six or seven months. I've seen these demons before...the last time I lost a lot of weight...why I think I was done with them is beyond me.

Biggest lesson:

1) if you mess up...the band is still there...so get back to work

I made my biggest mistake just this week. I am 8 1/2 months out and have never PB'd, slimes, etc. So I made a roast this week, when I took it out and tasted it, I took way to big of a bite and it was too hot to chew, so I instead of spitting it out, I swollowed it. Bingo. First PB. I don't know if it is possible, but I think it was stuck for almost 2 days. I couldn't keep anything down for the rest of the day and the next. Now everything is fine. I went to the doctor to make sure and he had me swollow barium under the flouro and he said I was ok. No roast for me for a while! :D

Four weeks out of surgery I went to the cheesecake factory with my mom and sisters. We had appetizers, salad, bread and entree. When I got up to leave after dinner I almost passed out from the pain and cramps. Then a week later, I was visiting my dad and didn't eat for along time. I was ravenous and did it again.........lesson learned...takes me awhile. DON'T OVEREAT...IT HURTS.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
