K. So I am a food addicts. There. I said it. I am worried about replacing this addiction. Has anyone picked up a vice that replaces food?

That is definitely something to worry about. I started counseling after my surgery to deal with the loss of my best friend, food. It has been a challenge to find better ways to deal with issues than to reach for food, but I am doing pretty well overall. I think acknowledging the issue is the first step. Making up your mind to use food differently also makes important changes possible.

I probably will be addicted to buying clothes after I get to my goal.. I love to buy new clothes, shoes, accessories... But instead of a new addiction that is harmful, why don't we get addicted to the good things in life, I figure I will more energy and free time... we can read more, take on a new hobby, like flower gardening, redecorate your bedroom or any part of your home, help others going through a weight loss surgery like a friend, volunteer, if u don't work like me...(I retired 3 years ago). Get a part-time job that is fun ..go back to school, etc etc.there is so much in life we are still waiting to experience.. I love to travel, so I will do more of this..there is a big world waiting for me.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
