BandMom5 5 Posted October 3, 2013 Hi ladies! I'm still pre-op, but I'm thinking ahead...because all I can think about lately is having this surgery and how my life will change and how I want it to change. I was diagnosed with PCOS about 9 years ago, after trying for 2+ years to get pregnant. We were finally blessed with a healthy, happy baby, who is now 5 years old, so I've just maintained on the pill to curb my PCOS symptoms. Well, about the last 6-9 months my period has been all outta wack, and after consulting with my midwife, we have come to the conclusion that the pill is no longer working like it should. Part of the reason? My weight. Well, that was the final straw for me and my decision to have WLS. Long story short...she has suggested that I try the Mirena. I was leary at first, but now seriously considering it, since it would be one less pill for me to have to deal with, especially post-op. The other reason I'm seriously considering it is also because I hear that women who have PCOS are virtually free of it once they lose weight, and we aren't in the baby making business anymore. Anyone have any experience with the Mirena? Thoughts? Input? I would GREATLY appreciate it!!
sys81 12 Posted October 4, 2013 I know a lot of people who have been on that and have had ectopic pregnancies or given birth. I started using Implanon( not sure on spelling) but its good for 3 years and it stays in my arm. No side effects for me and is very convenient! Good luck. I got pregnant and miscarried at almost 5 months (weak cervix) they say it had nothing to do with anything that I did or didn't do. But nun the less I feel my weight played a part. So now after that I got Mirena and LOVE IT SO MUCH . Besides the fact that I can not get pregnant for 5 years, and don't have to remember the to take a pill its great and to know that I can take it out once I'm ready is really great.. pinkpeonies 42 Posted November 3, 2013 I've had the Mirena, and loved that my wierd irregular cycles went away completely. Most of my PCOS symptoms are gone, or diminished, now. My cycles came back like clockwork once I hit about 220 lbs. That was the oddest thing! I've been on the pill for 4 mos now, because honestly, the Mirena hurt so bad to get put in, I don't want to go through it again. I will say, the pill has been fine, and my skin is clearer than it's ever been in my entire life, which I'm enjoying.
atelux17 135 Posted November 3, 2013 I got the paraguard. No chemicals. I'm still spotting a little. Insertion wasn't that bad, cramps for about a week.
