How is the LB when you are sick, flu, etc?

Recommended Posts

:sick One of my sons and I have been both sick since last night and today from the flu. Which I know things happen, thats life. But after reading about the possible slip of the band from throwing up, etc.

1) Does having the LB make you feel even worse when you are sick with things like the flu? I really really hate to threw up, and

2) I am wondering how the LB effects or affects you when you are sick?

When I had a fever, my band got very tight and I could hardly eat.

For the most part - you can eat Soup and stuff, so it makes little difference, overall.

Hopefully, you won't get nauseaus enough to throw up - but if you are all healed up from surgery, you should be able to withstand a little heaving, especially if there isn't too much food in your system.

Pump liquids and if you are throwing up repeatedly - get to a clinic or emergency room for some anti nausea stuff.

Hugs and feel better!

Vomitting is a suspect for some slipped bands. Several bandsters (me included!) keep a liquid anti-emitic on hand, just in case the nausea hits. It hasn't for me, but then again, I've vomitted twice in the last 20+ years.

Its so weird - must be a cultural thing. To me flu is influenza which is a respiratory illness and has nothing to do with gastro - gastroenteritis, which is where you throw up and get diarrhoea. I cant get over how you guys call that flu! To me you dont throw up when you have the flu, you get a raging fever and aches and pains and a horrid dry cough and headaches and runny nose.

Anyway, that's irrelevant, I've been most lucky to avoid it since banding, but its one thing I'm terrified of. I know one friend who cant vomit since being banded and spent the time dry retching and in agony without the relief of a good chuck.

How could I get an anti-emitic? Would I need to get a prescription?

Thanks!!!

I had a BAD stomach virus and the drug that they gave me to stop vomiting actually dissolves under your tongue. It's called Zofran. Seriously, I should be a drug rep for them because I LOVE this medication. You definitely need a script to take it but I would ask your surgeon to have a few on hand... especially when you're only a few weeks post op. You feel better in 5 minutes!! It's seriously rockin'.

With love and in love with Zofran,

Sheila

P.S. TOTALLY unrelated: Babygotback when are you going to weigh yourself.... I've been following your progress and I'm so excited for your first weigh in!!

I had a personal experience with this. It was about 1 1/2 months after surgery and I got the stomach flu. I absolutely could not vomit no matter how much I wanted to. It must have been the band stopping it. All I could say is get plenty of rest and fluids. Cranberry juice mixed with 7 -up works for me expecially if I'm nauseas.

You beat Jerry! He was at 13 years and lost it because of the disharmony of the black and white cookie.....

(seinfeld? If you didn't watch it, I apologize for a seemingly inane response...followed by the suggestion that you consider watching an episode or two...)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
