trishd 0 Posted January 23, 2007 My surgery date is 1/29/07. I am getting really scared. I had someone call me and tell not to do it, because she has had hers for 15 mos. and has not lost a thing. If she could go back she would not have had it done. :faint: I am doing this mostly for health reasons and the weight loss will be a great side effect. I am looking for anyone that can help me feel easier about my decision and hear about your story. :help:
BabyGotBack 0 Posted January 23, 2007 Don't be afraid. The people that don'g lose weight are very, very few. The sad thing is, except for a few that actually have medical reasons for not losing, a lot of people want to blame the band for not working, when it is in fact, them. They eat around the band, find ways to still get too many calories in. You still need to work with the band. Make sure you are getting between 1200-1500 a day. Make healthy choices and follow bandster rules. Someone like your freind should have had gastric bypass. People need to realize the band is only a tool. If you don't work with the band, it is helpless to help you. If you try to meet the band half way, it will meet you half way. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!!! shutuplena 0 Posted January 23, 2007 I was banded on 11/14 and was also scared but I knew I was making the right decision. Maybe the person you spoke to who hasn't lost anything wasn't following the appropriate diet. As you can see in this site MOST of us here are so very happy we were banded. Health reasons are the best reasons why you should have WLS. It's normal to be scared and after the surgery, you'll be SO HAPPY you had it done. Good luck on the 29th. laurigee 545 Posted January 23, 2007 Everyones experiences are different. I never had any problems with the surgery, actually never had any pain. So for me to say that it's not worth a chance, I definately couldn't say that. Maybe the person who called you is alot like myself and never dealt with the reasons for overeating and still do so after the band. I still eat past comfortable. Alot of people don't have that problem after the band. I have not lost alot of weight since my surgery (46lbs.) but I would never probably have done it without the band. I think you are doing the right thing for yourself and within the next few months we will be hearing your story. Don't be scared, it is just another page in your life and no one can guarentee the outcome so ENJOY the good and accept the bad. If it helps at all, I would do it again in a heartbeat. Good Luck
Ollie 0 Posted January 26, 2007 hi...I think we all wished we had a crystal ball to be sure we were doing the right thing by having surgery. I was scared to death to have it but I was even more terrified realizing that I was getting heavier and unhappier by the day....you do have to understand that it isn't a magic pill....you still have to work at it everyday. I had surgery on 11/21 and I have lost 38 lbs. and I don't feel hungry. I go for my first fill 1/30...that is making me nervous. I don't really know what to expect. good luck to you....
