Is there any point that I will be able to take a normal sip of things after surgery?

It gets better, really. I drink almost normally now. Just can't chug like I used to, but others can.

I am two months tomorrow and I can turn up a water bottle and chug exactly 5 chugs. Any more than that and its uncomfortable. I've always been a Water chugger, and those first few weeks were torture for me. Now I can feel satisfied with my 5 chugs. :-)

Like others said, Absolutely!!! I was at about 8 weeks and was starting to feel discouraged because I was still having to take small sips due to nausea. Got better nausea meds and now magically, I can drink reasonably! Maybe 2-3 full mouthfuls of Water or milk before I need to pause for a few minutes. If the forced sipping lasts a long time (like, maybe 6-8 weeks?) be sure to discuss it with your surgeon during your followup (or just call if you are experiencing anything that is distressing to you!)

Good luck!

I am a chugger too. That was the most difficult thing for me. Now I can chug a few times and be ok. I have never counted but I would guess 5 or so like a previous post mentioned. I'm 3 months out.

That is totally me! I hope I still love water when I'm changed.

Thanks Daydra! There is so much light at the end of the tunnel, I can't wait.

Water is my best friend and I couldn't imagine not being able to take more than a sip forever.

I'm glad someone asked this. I'm 3 weeks post-op and not being able to drink a few gulps is so annoying. I like to run and not being able to drink enough afterwards is frustrating! I'm also going to start a Bikram yoga class and I'm a little worried about the dehydration if I can't guzzle a bottle of Water like I used to.

As long as it isn't super cold I can chug liquids no problem. If it is too cold I get a spasmy feeling in my stomach.

I worried about the same thing like when Im working out, how am I going to be able to keep myself hydrated enough. Its not an issue for me though, Ive been able to drink beverages the same way as before surgery...chugging when I want.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
