Fit2btied 122 Posted October 2, 2013 Is there any point that I will be able to take a normal sip of things after surgery?

NMJG 1,266 Posted October 2, 2013 It gets better, really. I drink almost normally now. Just can't chug like I used to, but others can. 1 youthguy80 reacted to this

katie75009 34 Posted October 3, 2013 I am two months tomorrow and I can turn up a water bottle and chug exactly 5 chugs. Any more than that and its uncomfortable. I've always been a Water chugger, and those first few weeks were torture for me. Now I can feel satisfied with my 5 chugs. :-) 1 JessFinch reacted to this
Daydra 345 Posted October 3, 2013 Is there any point that I will be able to take a normal sip of things after surgery? Like others said, Absolutely!!! I was at about 8 weeks and was starting to feel discouraged because I was still having to take small sips due to nausea. Got better nausea meds and now magically, I can drink reasonably! Maybe 2-3 full mouthfuls of Water or milk before I need to pause for a few minutes. If the forced sipping lasts a long time (like, maybe 6-8 weeks?) be sure to discuss it with your surgeon during your followup (or just call if you are experiencing anything that is distressing to you!) Good luck! 1 ribearty reacted to this
mmgraham102602 10 Posted October 3, 2013 I am a chugger too. That was the most difficult thing for me. Now I can chug a few times and be ok. I have never counted but I would guess 5 or so like a previous post mentioned. I'm 3 months out.

AvaFern 3,516 Posted October 3, 2013 I'm glad someone asked this. I'm 3 weeks post-op and not being able to drink a few gulps is so annoying. I like to run and not being able to drink enough afterwards is frustrating! I'm also going to start a Bikram yoga class and I'm a little worried about the dehydration if I can't guzzle a bottle of Water like I used to.
piercedqt78 658 Posted October 3, 2013 As long as it isn't super cold I can chug liquids no problem. If it is too cold I get a spasmy feeling in my stomach. 1 Fit2btied reacted to this
notmeanymore 629 Posted October 3, 2013 I worried about the same thing like when Im working out, how am I going to be able to keep myself hydrated enough. Its not an issue for me though, Ive been able to drink beverages the same way as before surgery...chugging when I want. 1 Fit2btied reacted to this
