Call your surgeons office and ask. Mine allows Milk of Magnesia occasionally and it works well. He now has me on stool softeners, (4 a day) and magnesium 250mg twice a day. That has helped tremendously! I know how bad it feels and it just never seemed to get better until the above regimen. I know people are going to say drink more Water and eat Fiber but even with that, I was having a really hard time. Good luck with it!:)

I feel your pain. I take 2 Colace pills a day (generic) I also take Miralax every day. My Dr. said they give it baby's and I could take it every day if I wanted and it would be safe. I'm taking it! I drink it in my hot tea or Water.< /p>

If your already impacted, it's too late for stool softeners.......Go to Walgreens or any drugstore and get some Magnesium Citrate. It's like unsweetened Kool Aid. It should do the trick in short order.

Milk of Magnesia worked for me... a little too well. I took more than the recommended dosage. :-)

Mag citrate for this situation....then after that you can take the dss (collace). I agree with recycled stool softener's are to late once you are all backed up. Make sure to take with at least 8 ounces of water...if you still have trouble getting fluids down, take a sip of each every couple of minutes until they are both gone. Good luck! :)

In the first few months you will probably need some help. You will have a lot of Protein and little to no fiber. I would put a teaspoon of Miralax in my Protein shakes in the morning and I take children's fiber gummies. I also eat prunes. MOM or miralax work great but once you get cleared out keep an eye out and use them when you need them.

Good luck!

Today I ate 2 prunes for an afternoon snack and then drank about 6 oz of apple juice diluted with Water. I was not trying to help Constipation, I usually do not have that problem.......but I can tell you it will make you go!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
