So I'm 6 days post op everything is ok but I wondering why I have six incisions instead of the usual five. Prolly should have asked my surgeon...it never occurred to me. Anyone else has six incisions and know why?

They might have had to put in another tool to hold something out of the way. Id ask the doc to be sure.

Did you have your gallbladder out or a hernia fixed?

I only had 4. Depends in how much "stuff" they have to hold up to get to the stomach

No. No other medical complications.

I had a hiatal hernia fixed which added an incision. I wouldn't have even known that he had fixed it if it hadn't showed up on my swallow test- it wasn't ever mentioned by my doctor. Apparently it's a fairly common thing that they fix but it often adds an extra incision.

I also had six. I don't think it was because of having my enormous gall bladder removed, though. I think it may have been because I had robotically-assisted surgery.

I had six bandages, but only five incisions, left me wondering for a while, just glad to have my 5

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
