1 1/2 years out... any questions

Recommended Posts

I felt like I was super informed going into the surgery. I just knew this surgery would be the tool I needed to change my life! My life is a lot different now in many good ways since the weight loss. I am married with 1 child and in my late 20's. My heaviest was 272. I lost naturally and went to 230. Then a had a baby and was 244 a year later on the day of surgery. Today I weigh 160 in a size 6. I'm 5'6". My lowest was 155 but only for about 2 weeks. Big boobs and butt... are gone sadly. Lol.

Does anyone have any questions? I'm an open book and here to help.

I just ask someone else this, now I'm going to ask you. What do you appreciate most about your new weigh vs your old weight.

I am having trouble keeping up with the stages.. Ill be 2 weeks thursday! How did you do? :( in tired of liquids and pureed

I kept up with the stages for the first maybe 3 weeks. My nut wasn't too strict. I basically ate soft foods at 4 weeks. But eating wasn't enjoyable for me for about 3 months. Stick with the stages as much as u can to avoid the pain of stretching.

The thing I appreciate most is the energy and ability to get up and go.

Honestly, I lost 90% of my weight in the first 6 months. I don't consider my current weight a stall. I am healthy and happy with my current weight. I know any pound that follows will be with strict diet and exercise. I eat a very bountiful, high Protein homemade salad everyday with minimal dressing for lunch. I try new recipes at night that aim to be 400 cals or less. I use tortillas a lot now... for everything from homemade pizza's to bea n burritos. My capacity is more than I expected. I can eat as much as the average skinny girl.

Congratulations on your weight loss. Did you keep track of your month to month loss if so what were you averages per month.

I am 7 months out and have only lost about 55lbs. I work out every day, cardio 7 days and strength 3-4 days. I eat okay except for my recent love affair with ice cream.

I do notice the inches melting away.

I am 4 months out and have lost 56 lbs. very happy with my weight loss so far. But I have been in a stall for a couple of weeks. I am so afraid this is all I am gonna lose. Did u have stalls that lasted this long? What did u do to break them? I have tried everything. I know u just gotta wait it out.

I am at month 2.5 and it has been far too easy ( I know heresy) sure it took hard work and focus and retraining, but compared to the work i used to put into simply maintaining my high weight this is nothing. So my question is whether it gets harder? not so much to lose weight as I am nearly at goal now but to maintain the weight loss. particularly when the novelty wears off.

thanks

I can eat a whole sandwich, 1 quesidilla, large salads, but if its something dense like steak- 4oz and nothing on the side. When I'm a bad girl I can eat a small plate of Pasta, like chicken alfredo.

At the beginning I felt ostracized when I went to dinner with people, now I can sit comfortably. I can eat normal small portions and enjoy most of an entire meal.... one course. The biggest problem is grazing. I have realized that I could probably eat half a pie of pizza in 3 hours so I have to make sure I don't even bring things like that in the house!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
