Gas Gas and more Gas!

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on 9/11/13...everything was going great until my 2nd week post surgery.

I started experiencing severe gas and I'm not talking a little oops here n there, I'm talking gas trapped in my chest.

I try to burp it out, I try to rock back n forth on the toilet to release it out that way...yet nothing!

Did I mention..not one bowel movement since I got home on 9/12.

Been on the phone with my Dr this morning, he suggested magnesium citrate, so I bought a bottle and plan to stay in for the day.

Gosh I really hope this works, I'm in so much pain with the pressure coming from both ends I just want a big blowout of relief!!!

Anyone else that's 6months-1year post surgery ever experience this dilemma...please do tell...it helps the rest of us rookies.

Thank you

You might want to try GAS-X strips.

I had horrible gas cramps 4 days post op and GasX has been a savior... I take it after every meal and have had little to no problems since... As far as Constipation - I was told 200 mg of Colace a day and if that doesn't work add one dose (2 if necessary) of Miralax for 3 days... It has worked pretty well for me... There are lots of people that use milk of magnesia on here and swear by it! Good luck!

Ouch!! I was sleeved on 9/9 and the week after surgery I was going number two then I just stopped. I was so uncomfortable!! I started taking mirelax and after the second dose I went. I take it every night now with hot tea and I go to the bathroom about every other day.

You really want to stay on top of this. Add Fiber into your diet. I am 6 months post op, and I feel lucky if I can use the bathroom once a week. You will also notice once you start adding food an Protein in more that at times you will get a very loose BM, but most of the time it will be a chore to go.

Thanks for all of your tips. I went and bought the gas x strips, mirilax & papaya enzymes. Everything has helped tremendously!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
