Bill survived the 5 hour surgery!

Recommended Posts

My husband Bill had lung cancer. He was under the knife for 5 hours after them delaying the surgery that was scheduled for 7:30 the night before to noon in the morning and he actually went at 2:30. The surgery itself was a success. They were able to do it with small incisions and not crack his ribs thank God. Because of all your prayers the surgeon's hands were guided by God. But in intensive care it was a nightmare. They had to tie him down so he wouldn't pull out the tubes especially the breathing tube. When I saw my strong man all tied up and a tube down his throat it was too much for me. He looked like he was dead. I broke down and had to get out of there. I stayed at my youngest boys house and did manage to get 4 hrs sleep. Getting ready to go back. My middle son stayed in hospital room with him.

Please continue to pray for his recovery. Thank you.

My prayers are with you and your family. I went through this with my brother this past April. Thankful to God that he made it. They removed half of his right lung and he is going through radiation in 2 months. He started chemotherapy right after he had his surgery. Your DH is in great hands as long as you leave him in Gods.

So glad to hear he made it through the surgery well and with a less invasive procedure. It's hard seeing a loved one in a state like he was, but just give it a few days and prayerfully all will be much better. Don't forget to take care of yourself during this time, make sure you are getting plenty of rest, fluids and don't forget to eat as well. I will be praying for a speedy recovery. Take care and God bless!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
