2 years gone by, only 55 lbs gone...

Recommended Posts

Hi ,

I'm new to the forum and looking for help. I had my lap band surgery almost 2 years ago. the first year I lost 65 lbs and was so happy! But now the second year, I have not lost any weight. In fact, I have been yo-yo ing the same 10-15 lbs for months now. I have noticed that I have been able to eat more and I feel like I am going out of control again... Any suggestions out there? Or anyone else been in this situation??

Thanks!

I haven't been through that yet, but I don't doubt that I will at some point. How is your restriction level? If you feel like you have pretty good restriction (without being over-filled), then I'd say you need to look at a) your food intake; :) your level of exercize; or c) both! Maybe set up an appointment with a nutritionist, or join WW for a few weeks until you get going again. Or, sign up for an exercise class or get a personal trainer. You just need something *new* in your life that spurs you on. Doing the same ol' thing will just get you the same ol' results!

It sounds as if you may need a fill since you say that you are able to eat more, I have read that due to shrinkage around the band of fat that you may need a fill even if the fill that you had months ago was right at the time. Good luck with finding the solution.

Thanks Ladies!

I have not had a fill in over 6 months, which I know is part of the problem. I guess I'm afraid to keep getting fills. I have a fear that getting too many will cause erosion. I just can't seem to get back into the groove that I was in right after surgery. I remember saying to myself "I am never going to do that to myself again" But here I am....

:faint:

I don't think that the number of fills contributes to erosion (or slippage), but being over-filled can. I understand your concern, because I also want to be fairly conservative with fills. Besides the erosion/slippage concern, I also just want to be able to eat Breakfast and not to struggle with solid foods.

But, you need *enough* restriction to make the band work. So, get a fill, and if you find you can't eat Breakfast, or struggle with solid Proteins, or have a problem with reflux, then get a little taken back out. It's a fine line between too much restriction and too little.

And from what I understand, Jadedlady is right. Sometimes when you lose weight, you actually lose some fat that lies under the band. So, the band can loosen a bit as you lose weight.

Good luck,

Tami

Yup yup! My first thought was "You need a fill!" I went about 6 months underfilled. Now I scratch my head, wondering where I could be if I'd had more.

Some people - well, everyone to an extent, but some more than others - have fat around their organs. This, too, is fat that's lost when you lose weight. So think of a big fat wrist, and when you lose weight, your bracelets and watch fit looser and you have to tighten them. That's what happens to your organs and the band when you lose weight. The fat between the organ and the band goes away, leaving "space" that needs to be filled up with... fill!

How have your longterm habits developed? Still making good food choices? Exercise? Fluids? Are you just eating more, or are you also eating more "bad"?

You need a fill. That will get you back on track. Don't worry too much about being overfilled. You will know when it is time to stop. You can take that 10-15 lbs off in no time. Good luck.
