Hello all,

Its been 10 days since I have had my surgery. I am following their directions to a tee and exercising but my weight loss is very slow. How much should I be losing in the first two weeks and how many total calories am I supposed to be eating. Do you all see a dietician to guide you or just eat a set amount of calories? I need to know since I really want this to work!

I have heard that the first 6 weeks up until you are filled are about healing. If you lose during this time, it is a bonus. Most people I have seen lose between 10-15, but then gain when they add mushies and solids. This is why I have chosen not to weigh myself until I am a week into eating solids. I didn't want to torture myself. I am just going by how my clothes fit for now and they are feeling looser.

I hope this helps!

I agree with babygotback. That is exactly what my surgeon said. You are healing. I lost a little but going from mushy to solids I gained 6 lbs. It soon came off with a fill though. Take this time to just relax and heal. The weight will come off, trust me.

Yep, the first few weeks' focus should be on healing. It will start to come off, but get your new belly healed first! As far as what to eat...you need to consult with your doctor on this one. They each seem to have their own plan they want you to follow. Good luck and happy healing!

Smita...Don't get discouraged this early in the game. During your journey one week will be great for weight loss the next you may gain or not even lose a pound. There are alot of ups and downs and you just have to roll with it. Since your doing everything your suppose to your body just has to catch up with the new program. I eat about 800-1200 calories a day and always eat protien first. I know you will do great because I can tell you are focused. Good Luck and just be patient!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
