I was around day 5. It isn't necessarily unusual. Do you feel like you need to go but can't? I wouldn't rush out and down a bunch of stuff but if you are uncomfortable you could do a couple of doses of Miralax, it is easy and moves it along. You have to remember you have a lack of stuff in your system so when you were consuming a couple thousand or more calories you might go daily or whatever, but taking in a few hundred and having had surgery and narcotics is going to slow everything down. I actually got an app where I track it, just because I heard of so many people having issues post op. I didn't want to find myself trying to remember. My surgeon told me it could be nearly 2 weeks before I saw anything post op.

Totally normal but not very comfortable. Between Protein and pain meds the odds are stacked against you, I used Milk of Magnesia (sp?) and OTC Colace. Eventually you will go and this will be nothing more than a blimp on the radar. Also make sure your drinking enough Water.< /p>

If I was you, and I was when I was a week post op, take action and soon. It can get really bad, really fast! Don't let it happen to you. Trust me on this, I learned the very, very hard way. If I have to take the role as self professed Constipation cop, then I will do it happily

.

Get the MOM, get the Miralax, you need to move it out.

Also, remember as you heal and are on a different diet, you will be taking in large amounts of Protein. Even shakes and Protein drinks are still Protein. You will also be taking in little to no Fiber. Not a good combination for regularity.

Good luck, hope everything comes out ok! ;) ;)

I literally spoke to my doc about this last week. He said if it's 7 days or more you should definitely contact your doctor to at least listen to your stomach sounds... I was able to go after 4 days... He told me to take 200 mg of Colace a day and one dose of Miralax a day but only take the Miralax for 3 days... That worked for me... Milk of Magnesia seems to work for lots of folks on here!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
