Dr. Illan / Florence Hospital - info to put in front of spouse to reassure him?

Recommended Posts

Hi Annie, I'm biased because I adored Dr. Illan and had an amazing experience, but I truly believe you're in incredibly competent hands! I would have surgery with him again in a heartbeat.

Are you referring to the Team Illan group on Facebook? If so, right on! That was by far my favorite resource pre surgery. If not, please join the group!

I never came across a sheet of hard facts, unfortunately. Before surgery my dad was convinced that I would get to Mexico and they would take my check and leave me stranded. The only way to convince him how wrong he was was to come home, perfectly fine. :)

I think your best bet, like the person before me mentioned, is to set up a phone call or Skype chat with Dr. Illan so your husband can ask questions 'in person'. Dr. Illan is very friendly and professional and was happy to answer any and all questions.

Good luck!! I hope you love your experience as much as I did... Shoot, even if you only like it half as much, you'll still be happy with your choice. :)

Thank you, everyone, for the helpful input!

Whatever the industry or profession, I am used to paying more for high profile, seasoned/accomplished veterans with easily verifiable credentials. Sometimes when I don't have time to research, I'll go ahead and spend extra $$ on one of those to up the chance that I won't have issues. But most often I like to put extra energy in to finding talented up & comers & save my re$ources. I've found a couple of good & reassuring morsels about Dr. Illan that I hope to summarize & offer up to my husband (and to this forum) soon.

Thanks so much again!

I didn't mean to cause such an uproar... I have done my research for months and months, TRUST ME. Let's face it, the bottom line there is a chance of something happening no matter where someone goes. I have heard about the situation with the poor woman that passed away, and it's all very sad. I guess I came across a little too opinionated, and obviously people really love this Dr. Things happen and I understand that, I didn't mean to offend anyone.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
