Single Incision VS Regular - SCARS

Recommended Posts

Well I already have my date for a regular sleeve but an almost kicking myself for not spending the extra money on single incision. I'm curious peoples thoughts and experiences with the SCARS. I'm still somewhat young and only need to loose like 60 lbs so am still hoping one day to wear a bikini (possibly) and other nice clothes and don't want to feel like the scars are going to stop me. How are your scars now? Both single incision vs regular? I thought I was comfortable enough to think the scars will be almost non visible but now I am worried. Also has anyone heard that single incision is more risky? I heard even some Dr's in Mexico don't do it because of the risk that's what made me just say screw it to begin with (plus the money of course). Let me know what you think guys! Thanks!!

I've got 5 scars. 4 of them were the size of a dime right after surgery, and now they've faded to the point where they look like big freckles. The big incision where they pulled the stomach out is about 2 inches across now, and very faded, but still noticeable. I was a trained massage therapist, massaging the scars will make them breakup and fade quicker. So when I think about it, I'll spend a minute or two running my thumbs across the scars.

I had a TT a couple of years ago. My surgeon suggested using silicone sheets to reduce scaring and to aid in healing. Since this worked so well to flatten my TT scar I decided to try using silicone nipple covers on my sleeve scars. So far they seem to be working very well to reduce redness and flatten the scars. An added bonus is that they keep the scar from getting dry and pulling. Silicone nipple covers are not expensive. I ordered several pair.

Yeah I am also looking into some scar creams and such, I know there is medermia but looking for something a little more advanced... Plus maybe some tightening stuff. IDK again starting to think I should have stuck to single like I was originally going to.

My experience is that the scar creams don't do much. Silicone sheets are the way to go.

Not sure what you can tell, but here is a pic of my far left scar, after 8 weeks, and one of TT scar after 2 years. Both were treated with silicone sheets.

I have had 4 surgeries (3 related to Lapband and 1 gallbladder removal). All the scars were in the same place. Even with having surgery so many times, it faded so much that I hardly notice them.

I too was wishing I only had the 1 scar (I have the larger one around my belly button on 3 other small ones). I'm 4.5 months post surgery and the 3 small ones are barely noticeable - the 1 around my belly button is still pretty noticeable but hoping it will fade more over time. I can honestly say that I'm ok with the other scars and now don't regret not doing the single incision surgery.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
