gibbygirl 0 Posted September 30, 2013 3 1/2 months post op and overall pretty happy. Was on a liquid diet for 30 days post-op and it took me another 3-4 weeks after that to tolerate 4oz of solid food. Sounds really strange but plain non-flavored Water gives me a stomach ache. But if I add crystal light or Milo flavors or drink Propel water, I'm fine. So strange. Also, still hurts my stomach to digest meat. And I have a history of 7 kidney stones from too much Protein in the past. So you be able to see where i'm going with this. A high protein diet makes my kidneys irritated, but too many carbs result in crappy weight loss :-/ I have only lost 34 pounds so far. It makes me sad because I know it should be so much more than that. I'm scared that maybe I'm stretching my stomach too much (is this possible)? because I can eat more than I could a month ago. Realized today its time to get real. I need to stop snacking, cut back on carbs and drink more protein and water. I'm not giving it 100% like I should. So mad at myself. I do, however, have a non-scale victory: last week i jogged my very first 5K...THE WHOLE THING!!! Granted my "jog" is the same speed as someone's power walk, but hey----a jog is a jog . I do exercise and atay active. Just super bummer that I went through so much those first couple months and feel like a failure because I haven't lost much. Started at 194 and am now 160. Been here for about a month :-/ gotta try to keep my chin up and follow the rules. Because when I do, the weight comes off so easy!!! Wish this mental battle wasn't so dang hard!!! krystamae 11 Posted September 30, 2013 You are doing great!! Yes we all have bad days but it is a learning process, remember it is the percentage that is important! Take the amount of weight you need/want to lose and divide by weight lost! To be successfull studies show at 8 weeks post op you should be at 25 percent weight loss and at 5 months 50 percent!! I am a Low BMI'er and have followed this and seem to be doing ok! I have weeks that I do not lose weight but I am losing! I had my surgery in July 0f 2013!!! Hang in there and remember protein!!!! I notice my weight loss slows when I don't get enough Protein in!
gibbygirl 0 Posted September 30, 2013 Well my goal is 130....so i'm basically 50% of the way there! Great way to look at it . I wasn't incredibly obese to begin with, so I'm grateful I don't have far to go. Only 30 more give or take. I was just unhappy at my weight after 3 kids and also found out I had/have 2 bulging disks which didn't allow me to exercise much at all. And trying to lose weight strictly on changing my food was clearly getting me nowhere. The sleeve is allowing me to lose weight which in turn, is lessening the back pain/pressure. I am hoping this support group can provide me some encouragement because I don't have anyone to talk to about my journey. Thanks for your reply!
